Most global super powers did not possess this at their peak power
1. England and France were monarchies
2. Soviet Union was communist
My thoughts:
1. Nationalism
2. Abundant and diverse natural resources
3. large population relative to rivals
4. Economic wealth where a large % of GDP is dedicated to military

We are the only country with the balls to nuke another country. And we did it twice and then backed it up with the world's largest and most advanced navy and capable air force

I'd say that WWI happened even more so than 2 affecting things. For better or worse, you can thank Woodrow Wilson for the country we're currently living in with our interventionist policies. London was the world center for trade before WWI, and NYC replaced it handily after the war.

Our economy thrived after WW2 because instead of punishing the Axis and imposing trade embargo's on them we promoted trade.

our economy exploded after ww2 because of the marshall plan

The last war to take place on the US soil was about 150 years ago. Compare this to the other major countries in the world. It's a legitimate point.

Geography also plays a large part. Hard for others to invade a country with an ocean on each side of it. The European countries all had to contend with each other plus Russia.

our navy is larger than the rest of the world's combined.
The US has 11 super carriers with 2 under construction. China has 2...

1. Geography.
2. Serving as the world's primary creditor during WWI. This allowed the US to amass gold reserves putting it at the top of the global postwar banking pyramid.
3. Parlaying 1 and 2 into the unprecedented war production machine seen in WWII and therefore being the only country capable of saving Great Britain and its far-flung empire from ruin.

It started when America bankrolled the first part of WW1. It became inevitable after the destruction of 2 total wars on Europe, and the military industrial complex that emerged after WW2 partially as a response to the Soviet Union and creeping communism.
