How come so much Texas blackout blame is put on windmills? (Wind powered turbines)

They have windmills in frigid climates that work fine. Texas didn't winterize theirs.

The real factor in all this has been freeze issues at power plants.

The real focus should be that Texas isn't on the national grid and they don't have the same regulation that e have. For better or for worse.

My take on all of this is, we need to refocus on nuclear for the future. Especially if we are going with electric cars.

Because people want to blame Democrats or Republicans for every failure in life.

Because democrats like them. Given that fact, all of the geniuses of the OT are now energy experts to own muh libruls

Tilting at windmills, Don.

And they’re technically wind turbines.

It’s funny a couple of weeks ago everyone here was like “Texas has its own power grid lets secede LFGGGGG”. Then this happens and they’re all like “ECROT sucks frick you liberals”.

Because the O&G industry in Texas is very big and very powerful and they're attempting to hide the truth from the public so they can profit some more on Texans' misery.

Naturally is part of a larger discussion. But on Tigerdroppings.com windmills have largely been made to be the scapegoat. With little focus on the lack of winterization protection of their grid.

I just wanted to ask why. Though I get it. Everything is political and you want to blame them but not us.

In today’s America both sides of the political spectrum want to play gotcha instead of getting to the root of the problems.

The right will blame renewable energy sources and Biden. The left will blame the greedy utilities and the Texas Governor.

That’s how we roll now.

In the end the media will get behind the left’s talking points while conservatives talking points are confined to message boards.

Wash, rinse and repeat.

Because Biden runs the windmills and F him.

But I doubt he could point to Texas on a map

Nuclear is ruinously expensive and not profitable compared with other forms of energy. The only era in which its development flourished was one in which the federal government heavily subsidized it, just as they are with green energy.

You can’t fault people for not wanting to live near a nuclear plant. A mistake with nuclear is potentially catastrophic beyond anything that can happen with fossil fuels and renewable energy.

If Texas relied entirely on renewable energy, how would the power grid be working now?

There is a new form of nuclear power producing on the horizon. I think it's our future. I'll freely give my take so f off rando random numbers poster.

The windmills and solar panels were the first to fail. They are the most unreliable source in extreme weather but at this magnitude of a storm there was going to be failure and shortages regardless.

The winterization argument is a bit ridiculous. This is an absurdly rare event for Texas. I don’t think the federal system winterizes its infrastructure in the southern states.

Exactly. Lack of winterization across all power generation types seems to be the root cause.

Nuclear is better in every way than solar and wind. It is much cheaper as well. The reason nuclear can’t compete with solar and wind is that governments are subsidizing solar and wind.

Well if the windmills were heated....
But I get it. I'm not for total wind power. Also like many people here I live within 20 miles of a nuclear power plant. I know so many locals who have no idea one is so close.

Safest most reliable form of producing energy. Just gets a bad rap. That's a different topic though.
