I really really hate this argument. You people that bury your heads in the sand are why Louisiana never moves forward and never will. What culture? Murder, Other Crime, Drugs, DUIs, Corruption, Low Wages, Oil Field Layoffs, Personal Injury Attorneys, Teen pregnancy, STDs? Sending your kid to a Private School (full of uncertified teachers) so they don’t get stabbed at a Louisiana public school? Bridges that will collapse any day now? That culture?

I never understood the “but the people are great” either. Go to rural Acadiana and try to speak to some of those 40-60 year old Cajun women. They’re just about the crabbiest, most unfriendly people you’ll ever meet. Sure they’re friendly if you know them. If you’re an outsider, you’ll be met with a “mais, da frick you want?”

The good food argument is also stupid. Creole seasoning and grease are shipped nationally. You can cook the same thing literally anywhere.

Yep.

I'm supposed to move here or stay because of what I make turds out of. Also, go anywhere in the south and "people are great". So frickin' what. That's what everybody says.

The novelty of south Louisiana wore off for me after about a year. After that, the veneer was stripped and Louisiana was revealed as what it really is. The coastal version of Arkansas. Native Louisianians really struggle to see this.

You're typical of alot of native Louisianians. You believe this state is in some way special and when it's called out for the fricked up place it really is. Your answer is "leave".

Instead of demanding more from the people here and it's leadership, your answer is to hold the exit door open for the educated producers of this state. The people who bring something to the frickin' table.

The people bitching aren't miserable. In fact, the people bitching are in all likelihood more successful than those who think trivial things like food make a place worth living in.

You're ok with settling for the silliness of "food and culture" but you're not alone. Alot of native Louisianians have been inculturated to settle and when they're confronted on that, like you they get angry.

All the Louisiana hating people here love their current place they live in so much they waste all of their time posting on a Louisiana message board. Is your current state so poor they don’t have their own message board? These same people will tell people they are from Louisiana when on vacation instead of saying their current state they live in. They hate Louisiana so much on here but still claim it. GTFO and find another message board losers.

I post here because LSU is my team. Plenty of family as well as my wife, and myself (for a semester) went there. This is not a Louisiana message board. It's an LSU message board. Go to city data forums if you're looking for a purely area-based message board.

And I think it's silly to not talk about the issues of a state. My wife and I moved because we didn't fit in there. As much as people like to say that folks are generally the same everywhere, it's not really true. Sure we all want generally the same things; safety, family, love, etc., but the way people go about things up here are better than down there. I'm not speaking for people below I10 or in Shreveport/Monroe, but specifically in Cenla there was a strong attitude in which everyone around me was either too obsessed with hunting, fishing, working, and getting wasted to do anything of substance. Anything else that wasn't the status quo for a male in Louisiana was met with backlash. I got weird looks for riding a bike to save money, wanting to start any sort of business got me "who the frick do you think you are" look, anything that wasn't coffee, work, hunt, fish, drink, kids, church was met with disdain by MOST. frick taxes to fix roads, have a better school system, pay teachers, and do a myriad of other things that help the place they live. Public transit? Buy a jacked up F250 and roll coal on people like a real American.

Not all people, but enough people that it made sense to leave the area altogether.

I'm likely generalizing, and maybe I just hung around the wrong people, but that was my experience for 2.5 decades in that state. The only reason I think I lasted as long as I did was because of football. But eventually those days end, and I looked around and half the people I went to high school with were gone. And the ones who left were the smart, interesting, funny, driven ones. And I wondered why. And then I left, moved to Idaho, and it was pretty clear within a few weeks how backwards we have it in Louisiana. Don't get it twisted, Idaho has PLENTY of the same problems as Louisiana. But, in my experience, people are actively working to fix those issues. Yes, it's slow rolling, but heads aren't buried in the sand.

It's always gonna be home, and my entire family lives in Louisiana, but I can make Jambalaya up here and visit every 4-6 months.

LA is fine if you have some money. If you make over 100K a year then LA can be a very good place to live in that you can buy your way out of the bad schools, neighborhoods, towns and so on.

I love LA culture and food and most of the people, but spend time in other states and you realize how fricked up LA is. Texas isn't so great either.

Well that isn't me.

I work in the medical field and specifically moved here, because in Louisiana I can live like a king. A guy like me produces alot of frickin' tax dollars. You're welcome but you don't have to thank me for staying.

But what about the "business degree" types that have to leave the state? What does it say about this fricked up place that no one wants to do "business" here?

You didn't think that shite through.

They love to see the stock market go up, yet think an accounting/economics degree or an MBA is a waste of time.

Love to watch TV/Movies, yet hate people in Hollywood.

Love music, yet think the world would be better off if those who went to school to study music took up a trade.

Calm down Nancy

Fudge Packer, I mean, Pandy Fackler, is just even more pissy and negative than her usual bitch self because she predicted that LSU had no chance against Bama this year and would go to the "kotex bowl" as she said and then later said Clemson would beat LSU by double digits because they had a better defense, etc. Now she has to live in this shithole and endure a purple and geauxld orgy at least until football season starts again following LSU having the greatest college football season of all time. It's not a good time for her, so please don't tell her to calm down.
