The worst part is the precursor antibiotic period before the operation - the war in your tooth between the medicine and the infection is what hurts the most. That can be debilitating pain potentially.
Since you've clearly dodged that bullet, the actual procedure is nothing burger unless something goes wrong, which is rare.

nothing like it use to be. you won't even feel anything. actually the Novocain injections are the worst part of the whole ordeal.

I forgot about the fact that my procedure required 2 visits. I thought the second visit was just for a little looksee but that guy numbed me up and went back in there for a second time.

Felt like getting the crown was a longer, more involved process.
I had a root canal when I was 15 because a filling had
fallen out without my realizing it. The root canal itself was uncomfortable but nothing that made me clinch the arm of the chair. I hated getting fitted for the crown much more than the root canal.

The pain is so bad. The medication doesn’t cut it. Prepare for extreme pain and bad headaches for about a week. Plan on taking off of work for about a week as well.

Have you ever had anal sex? That’s my closest comparison.

My dentist sent me to a guy whose entire practice is limited to root canal procedures only.
That guy is a endodontist, a specialist in root canals, your dentist did the right thing.

I’ve had several done. Never had pain during the procedure and only once did I have pain afterwards, but just for a day. The pain pill and a shot of Cointreau took care of it.
Adding: I was in my lat 20’s, early 30’s when having multiple, multiple root canals and crowns. If implants would have been available then I would have had the teeth removed and had implants. the root canals failed at about 25 years.

Mine wasn’t bad at all.
They numb everything. All you feel is the needle prick and some pressure.
Honestly, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. People probably freaked about root canals before modern technology and medicine. It’s like getting a filling now.

Had conscious sedation a few weeks ago for dental work, Halcion and nitrous. I do not remember a single thing. Appointment was for 1130 am, the only times I can recall are late evening that day. Don’t even remember going to Wallsyworld with my husband and buying stuff. The next day I was like, WTF???

With plenty of gas, have them put it on at least at 90%, and that deadening juice, you won't feel a thing. You'll be fine the next day. I've had about 7 of them.

I had my first one a month ago, no different than a simple filling.

Maybe a little sensitivity or soreness for 2-3 days afterwards. Tell the dentist he needs to take the bite out of contact and also prescribe you some Dexamethasone for about one week. Cuts down on the inflammation that causes soreness.

Nothing to it. They rub a topical anesthetic on the arch on one side behind your molars and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then they inject you and half your face goes numb. The start drilling and digging and filling and sealing...all painlessly. It's very easy.
I've had two and basically no pain in the hours and days after.
