And of course... you'll probably get aids while in the chair.

Man I had no idea there were so many practicing dentists on this board.

Such a wealth of knowledge in this thread.

Unless a dentist has actually had a root canal performed on them I would rather have the opinion of a few dozen people that have actually experienced it. Its kind of like a pregnant woman asking her male OBGYN what the delivery is going to be like, she would be better off asking the moms in his waiting room that already had a few kids. The average person is capable of separating the BS responses from those that are sincere.

Before root canal:

PAIN

[ON] OFF

After root canal:

PAIN

ON [OFF]

Don’t sweat it. I had one not long ago. My dentist sent me to a dentist who only does root canals. After the deadening shot, which was not bad, I felt very little pain. Except when the bill came in.

If you are a normal functional person, a root canal is one of those rare times you get to take good drugs.

You giving me 800 of Advil. The frick you say.

Mine went well, no pain until it abscessed and had to be lanced. Still good today.

If there's an ongoing infection while they're doing the procedure, the chance for pain is greater.

Can attest. Had a root canal while tooth was still abscessed and learned it was like having a root canal without Novocaine. That was some painful shite.

Regular root canal? Not bad, at all.

I had a crown done recently and it hurt like crazy. The last root canal I had was way less painful.

my last root canal was more pleasant than my last filling.

i guess it's because of the amount of numbness they injected into my mouth. i couldn't feel shite for three days.

With modern dentistry techniques and pain medicine, they are nothing to worry about

i had one that abscessed too. It was over a weekend and by the time Monday rolled around, it had swollen the size of a marble. It was so swollen, my right eye was shut. Anyway, they immediately send me to an endodontist also. When he lanced the abscess, it felt like a freaking orgasm. The pain was instantly gone and pressure released. Ahhhhhhhhhh....I don't even want to imagine what it looked like in there. My mouth filled with foul smelling juices. But man it hurt so good once lanced.

If it is infected there will be a lot of discomfort if your antibiotic has not done its job. If not, then its no big deal.

With the gas pain reliever, you can slow down your breathing rate to bump up the concentration of Nitrous and really float through the after noon with 6 hands in your mouth. No gas ???? the novicane injections will sting like hell till you loose control of your lips. The grinding after that is fairly painless until the root nerve is hit late in the procedure. Then its like a bolt of lightning pain that runs up through your eyeball.
Another useful pain distractor, if the nurse is cute, any thing you do under sedation and is in close proximity is fair game
