Drove by there today and there are major sections of the access road unfinished.

I also noted that with the work they did none seems to have been to increase the flow of traffic off the Interstate onto Loyola. It is a funnel that is going to back up onto interstate for 3 years.

I'm waiting for them to attempt a crane implosion on it.

EDIT: Damn you to hell, jamboybarry.

How can you complain about such a thing when Mitch saved New Orleans by pulling down statues and the evil legacy of white supremecy?

DoTD is still working on the plans for the new flyover, I believe (yes, they built the airport THEN realized it should have interstate access). To add to the foolishness there is only the one entrance/exit when they could have easily made a separate entrance/exit for arrivals and one for departures (with a connecting roadway between).

Instead they opted for a clusterfrick with a traffic circle.

That's not what happened at all.

ETA: shite load of people downvoting acting like this terminal wasn't rammed down our throats out of order just so stupid arse Mitch could have his name on it.

Yall really think DOTD didn't think this new terminal would need interstate access until after it was built?

I can't for the life of me figure out the purpose of that thing in looking at this picture.

Also, why the hell not just buy out ALL of that shitty property (that's just some slum housing and cheap warehouses), located south of that canal and basically abutting the new terminal? The cost of that entire tract would have been a tiny drop in the bucket of the overall cost of this boondoggle.

It's hard to conceive of anything more ill-conceived than this whole clusterfrick.

I see it. It's either that taxi way to the right that will cut over to the highway

or

since it's an airport, ubercopter in.

I'm just gonna fly out of BR to Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta and connect everywhere.

I may have the arrival/departure sides backwards in what I'm about to type, but it's not that important...

1. Coming into the terminal, the far right lane that bypasses the traffic circle is the departures lane. You'll enter that lane for drop-offs and short-term parking.

2. Coming into the terminal, the inside lane will direct you into the traffic circle with the primary flow sending you to the arrivals lane and long-term parking.

3. Leaving the terminal from the departures side, you'll enter the traffic circle and have the option of leaving the airport (second exit), going to arrivals (first exit), or coming back to departures (third exit).

4. Leaving the terminal from the arrivals side, you'll bypass the traffic circle on the far right (northernmost lane), or have the option of entering the circle to go to the departures side.

Basically, the main lanes entering and exiting the terminal bypass the traffic circle.

You mean open the new terminal building at MSY?

The airport (field) isn’t new.

I get that you're trying to sound pretentious, but the airport refers to this project as "The New MSY".

Yeah ... just a technical thing. It’s driving the FAA guys out there crazy.
