What's the difference between the product in an outlet store and the product in a regular store?

Here I googled it

Outlet store

An outlet store or factory outlet is a brick and mortar or online store in which manufacturers sell their stock directly to the public, cutting out the middle-men.

Every company is a little different

Brooks Brothers has an outlet line called 546 that's lesser quality than regular lines. That's what they sell in outlets

This makes sense.

There had to be more to it than "one eliminates the middle man" because why would people pay 50% more for a product they can buy for half the price somewhere else?

It used to be closeouts and such, but today, it's the same merchandise.

Save some money, and go to Sams or Costco, better merchandise and cheaper.

NO

It is not the same quality as the stuff they sell in their normal stores, and they have claimed as much.

I find that the RL polos in the outlets don't hold up as good as the ones at retail. Is this all in my head?

Nowadays companies actually make cheaper versions of their normal products that they only sell in outlet stores. It used to not be this way.

This is why outlet stuff never seems to last as long.

This is such a stupid question people are debating about it... Which means it's obviously not a question that "everyone should know".
