If what she said is true (the rental company wouldn't return her property), then her anger is justified. But, she has to be aware of where she is. It's a Muslim country and she's a woman.

I'm actually in AD like you. Spent the weekend in Dubai visiting a friend. Fun place to visit but a bit too expensive and flashy for me. I've been in AD since February. Family will be joining me here in AD in 2 weeks.

Ok great... I'm from Lafayette, what about you? I keep the Cajun food flowing here. Had Crawfish Etouffee last Friday after buying live crawfish, then boiling and peeling them and having the tails and fat the freshest possible.

Nope.

Pure shenanigans, and it appears to be very common. Scams for entry, making people pay up front for fees that don't exist, pull documents on arrival and force to live on shite.

Sure, there are scams like you say, and people get tricked into coming, paying upfront fees, and then the job is not what they thought. However, there are tens of thousands who come and find the work to be exactly what they applied for! Although, sometimes they are not given a day off, and they do take their passport, and things are not exactly as they wanted, but they work, end money home, and repeat.

Then for others (Domestic Workers), they get 1-2 days off, passport is with them, and an ok life for them. It is usually which family they work for, as an American or European family will treat them different from an Arabic family. Some of those people don't understand that people need time off and its sad, but how it is here in certain situations.

Been here over 20 years and have seen it all!

Tell me more about how the Dubai slave trade is a bunch western lies and those who get their passport taken deserved it, as if that is a normal thing to do!

No slaves here, get out with that BS.

Low income workers, be it construction building these towers, nannys, housekeepers, caregivers, etc. normally give their passport to their boss, but if they want out, they can leave. The point is where they come from, this is better for them so they stick it out.

There are some sticky situations that arise, but the majority is Ok. However, if everyone would abide by the labor laws, it would be better, but some just don't respect people.

A little different but similar. My Dad worked in Saudi for 11 years. While there he was stopped at a red light when a car driven by a local slammed into him. My Dad received the ticket. At his court date the judge told him since he was a guest in the country he was responsible, that if he wouldn't have been there it never would've happen.
That is some nationalism!

Yes, the urban myth. I heard those stories too, here in UAE, Saudi, Oman, Qatar, etc. but it is not like that. If a local slams into my car here and I am stopped at a red light, I will not get a ticket for just because I'm here from another country. There are some laws here!

Similar to your dad's ticket for being stopped at a light...I guess you heard if a guy commits suicide from jumping off his balcony, you will be responsible for his death because he landed on your parked car? LOL, its not like that.

Unfortunately, when she is released, instead of having learned her lesson and behaving properly she'll probably play the victim card here back home.

most people would legitimately be surprised by just how many American women (white, black, it doesn't matter) are traveling over there and getting their backs blown out for money.... it's a huge trend and goes on all the time.

And whose fault is that? They bought a air ticket and flew here to do shenanigans. Women from all over the world are here.

There are all kinds of women here- School teachers, business owners, real estate investors, oil & gas professionals, restaurant owners, stock traders, expat housewives, etc. and hookers- one of the oldest jobs in the world. Not only here but every GCC country, North Africa, in Southeast Asia- Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, hell most countries.

Same circle jerk goes on in all these countries

I live in UAE for 3-4 reasons:

Ease of travel
Right in the middle of the Eastern Hemisphere (6 hours from London, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Lagos and just 8 hours to Jakarta)
Safest country to live in
There is good business here and the region (I am in Oil & Gas and Food)

Maybe, don’t go posing for pictures in a country that really doesn’t want you there. What we think and what goes on there, aren’t the same. Disrespect a culture/country that you should have never been in and here we are.

Hoodrats just THINK people in the US don’t give a shite about them and are racists. Then, if they have the means, they travel abroad and find out what real racism looks like. And what it’s like when people really don’t give a shite about you on top of having ZERO patience for you.

Unrelated to this case but I always hear black athletes in the US say how racist this country is. I wonder if they’d gain any perspective if they went to Italy or Spain and went to a soccer match and listened to the entire crowd break into a racist chant and start throwing fricking bananas on the field. It’s crazy to me how uninformed people are thinking that the US is the most racist place there is.

I’m in BFE northern WI right now and drove 35 mins into “town” only to see a ton of Mootluhns. Totally bizarre they ship those people up here. I guess it’s between Minneapolis and Dearborn. Anyway I fully support the war between the Cult of Mohammuuht and the feminist/ gender ideology types. There are few more positive developments right now.

Originally from LC but we were living in Lafayette before moving here. This is my first time working in UAE but my 4th time working/living overseas. It will be nice having some folks from back home to hang out with.

Don’t listen to that Owlie. He practically begged me to come get him out of his bathtub and he obviously enjoyed it.

Just like the situation with Butch Griner. These are claiming the law is unfair and all this but this is a foreign country. Their laws
Are different. When in their nation you must respect their laws and customs. A year in jail will check that attitude just like it did with Griner.
