Only one of these questions matters. She/he will stop going home any more frequently than one holiday and a special occasion by year one.

What area does she/he plan on working in is the only thing that matters.

They’re both so similar, you can’t go wrong with either metro area.

DFW. No hurricanes, no widespread flooding.

And no tornadoes, no hail, rarely any winter precipitation in Houston.

houston seems to be the better choice for you.

closer to family and energy. doesn't seem like a tough choice.

Do you like urban sprawl or extreme urban sprawl?

How do you feel about strip malls?

I had both options in IT in 1999 coming from Baton Rouge. I chose Dallas. Looking back I would choose Houston to be closer to home. Those 9258 weddings you'll be invited to in the next 5 yrs will be a bitch to attend regardless. Make your first job close to home as possible.

I'm guessing you've never been in the latter more than 3 consecutive days

Well yeah but it’s a rare occurrence. Seems like DFW gets 2-3 snow storms annually.

From 1981-2010 average annual snowfall was 1.7 inches, whth nearly 13 inches one of those years.

"but a lot more corporate headquarters in Dallas than Houston"

Dallas has 22 and Houston has 21 on the Fortune 500. Houston lost Baker Hughes which was purchased by GE. Also the #1 on the Dallas area is ExxonMobil. For every employee in the Dallas area they have 10 in Houston.

If you're focusing on the energy industry then living in Dallas would not be your best option. Houston isn't considered the energy capital of the world for nothing.
