A city-owned water park in Grand Prairie openly advertised a "MUSLIMS ONLY" event -- closed to the general public.
That's religious discrimination. It's unconstitutional. I signed HB 4211 into law -- banning Muslim only no-go zones in Texas.
The City must cancel the event and commit to never allowing something like it again by May 11th, or lose $530,000 in state grants.
Let this be a lesson to local officials: Facilities funded by ALL taxpayers are not just for a subset of Texans.

So apparently private groups can routinely rent out the park. I assume they got in trouble for advertising that tickets to the event would only be sold to one specific religion?

Doesn’t help that he’s kind of a dick.

I’ll be voting for him again, but trust me - I have to deal with him - he’s kind of a dick. I miss Rick Perry and definitely Dubya.

Essentially, yes. If the letter is accurate, a private group rented out a publicly owned park and is holding an even that is open to the public...as long as they are Muslim. It wouldn't be all that different from you owning a private restaurant that is open to the public...but limits the "public" to white people only.

Presumably, if a local Mosque rented out the park for a private event and limited the attendees to just those who were specifically invited, such as its congregation, even if everyone of the invitees happened to be Muslim, it would not be a violation. No different than if a Baptist church rented out he park and only invited its congregation...who are all Baptist. It's the opening the event to the "public" but only allowing a specific subset of the public to attend based solely upon religious beliefs where the unlawful discrimination comes in.
