I recently took a job for where I'll probably make $35-40k less per year to finally quit moving, and settle in a place I want to live. It was actually a promotion, but I left a much higher paying state with equal or lower cost of living.
But I'm fricking happy. The pay is still better than average, and I have a social life again. Banging bar sluts in the road gets old. It's good to travel for work when you're young to expedite your knowledge and experience. But it reaches a point where you're miserable, and it isn't worth it.
There only way I'd go on the road again is if I were in my late 50s to early 60s, married, and wanted to make as much as possible before retirement. Other than that, frick it. Let someone else have it. From now on, I'd rather work to live, not live to work.
