Yes of course Hooli is based on Google, but maybe it's not as much of a parody as some might believe.

I like Mike Judge, but I can't watch Silicon Valley. The level of self righteous douche on that show is off the charts.

I'm more talking about the actors than the characters they play. They all seem to be more cartoonishly out of touch with reality in real life than they are in the show.
Except for Martin Starr, I don't know anything about him outside of his acting roles, which makes him my favorite actor on the show.

I love the show but you are right about this. Not to get Poli board but the real life actors are like over the top of their already over the top characters. Still love the show though.

Mike judge was in Silicon Valley for 3 months. And I doubt he was a programmer working for a video card manufacturer.

well he has a BS in physics so he likely has a lot of knowledge on the technical aspect as well as having consultants to help.
but the main point of bringing up his silicon valley experience is to show he knows the type of people who work there. in fact, it's why he quit.
