Sorry for your loss. He was a very handsome boy.

Thanks everyone for posting doggo pics also. It is an unexpected delight as an honor to the OP's best boys memory.

Sorry for you loss. Dogs are special. We don't deserve them.

Don't they pretty much all have hip and breathing/snoring problems?

They are prone to pretty much every problem. We've had two english bulldogs and currently have two french bulldogs.

One of my english bulldogs, Kool-Aid, passed at 8 due to swelling on his heart. He was pretty healthy his whole life except for that. Heart problems are more common in bulldogs. He was the first bulldog in our family and it caused my brother and dad to get one he was such a good dog.

The other english, Charly, was adopted and died at 6 from cancer. She had every problem under the sun. We actually had to have plastic surgery on her because her eyelids rolled over towards her eye so they constantly scratched her eye and causing all kinds of issues. She tore ligaments twice requiring surgery and numerous other things. We just had to laugh at all the stuff because you'd cry at the cost if you didn't. All things more to bulldogs. But we loved her and she was an extremely good and sweet dog.

Our 10 year old frenchie, Sweet Tea, would be in the top %5 of french bulldogs health wise if it wasn't for a brain tumor she got. Me and the wife were tearing up last night actually because we don't have much time left Virtually no problems her entire life except for the cancer and that is something that obviously isn't breed specific. We had radiation at LSU last year to shrink the tumor and give us more time that has been great and she' still acts like a puppy.

Our 6 year old frenchie, Tito, has been healthier than most frenchies but still has things common to the breed. Stomach issues mainly so has to have expensive food and some allergies, but overall not too bad.

none of our dogs have had breathing issues, never even had to have their nostrils opened up for better breathing. They all snore loudly but it's kind of comical and at this point it's like white noise. Mrs. Iwy actually wakes up if they stop snoring Great breed, super funny, very loving, but if you get one you have to expect a lot of expenses to go along with them. They are high maintenance.

Thanx for all the photos. I don't have a pup right now and I feel like an orphan.

The dachshund's are most susceptible to back issues which can be very expensive to fix. Luckily ours has not experienced any, even in her old age, but we're militant about her not jumping off anything (though she can no longer jump up on anything.)
