Nope, just a guy who was really obviously flamingly gay yet was either staying firmly in the closet or in denial.
A side note to this - As a goof, some of his friends called up Sylvia Landry’s escort agency looking for a girl for him. When she later got busted, there was apparently a whole part of the investigation looking into whether her business had a sideline in underaged customers as a result.

We always made our prom king/queen a disabled/special ed student to be sweet (not as a joke). That way their parents could have a nice moment taking them to the event and having them crowned.
