It's approximate location has been know since the 80’s.

If true then the gold is gone. No way $17 billion sits around where everyone knows it is and no one watches it yeat it’s still there.

This will end up like Geraldo’s vault.

The Romans were well known as specialists in hydraulic mining. To expose and release gold deposits from the earth, they used hydraulic pressure. Miners would carve aqueducts into the rock, which were used to transport water from the nearby creeks and rivers. Then the flow of water would fill the excavated cavities, causing pressure streams strong enough to pierce and break up the thick rock walls.

Anybody else who’s had fluid dynamics believing this? How many feet of head pressure does it take to break stone?

My Colombian lust was Claudia (pronounced Cloud-dee-ah) she introduced me to my first threesome with her and her roommate/girlfriend in Cartagena. Incredible three months .... man it was great being young back then.

I always expect you to finish your stories by describing an interesting item of clothing you found there, J. Peterman style.

Also, I think that's the only way to pronounce Claudia.

Nope. Not when you've heard a Latina pronounce it.

We aren’t thinking about treasure. We’re thinking about how to access the historical and archeological information at the site

Then it isn’t the holy grail of ship wrecks.
It would be the holy grail for treasure but not archaeology.

Ships from the Battle of Actium or from the first or second Persian war would be the aquatic Holy Grail of archaeology

Columbia or Spain will prevail in international court for ownership (my guess Columbia) the private salvage company is shite out of luck, case law is against them.

If it was insured, wouldn’t the insurance carrier have the rights?
Maybe Lloyd’s of london?

Actually possession is 9 points of the law. There are, I believe, 14 points in ownership law, and 9 of them have to do with possession.

If I ever discover a 18th century Spanish galleon worth $17 billion, I won’t say anything. But there will be signs…

Where you think Spain got “all of its shite” from? It’d be like me robbing your house, then wrecking my car and saying your TV is mine because it’s in my car.

Rule one of ship wrecks and gold should probably be “get the gold, then decide whether to announce you found it.”

Then why didn’t they discover it and recover it?

The loot should belong to whomever discovers it and has the means to recover it. frick those governments.
