White people ruin everything, they have all these rules about drugs, guns, noise ordinances, truancy, keeping your yard up etc.

It's a real drag.

So he had concerns about increased foot traffic? That could only help that shitty hood.
Low IQ blacks are upset all over most of N.O. Because they fear the whites are taking over, but this was to be an investment for THEM.

Their reaction is foolish and divisive. On the other hand, if a group wanted to open a mega dollar store or a gym for inner city BREC games around the country club of Louisiana, their reaction would be similar. They might not use the same words, but your reasons would be the same.

He apparently sees all "black people" as the same. One homogenous group with zero variance.

It doesn't enter into his little primate brain that race can be a very small factor in context
It all boils down to "white people" (Who are, obviously, the devil.) and "black people".

He doesn't grasp the concept that most people who work hard want to live in a community that reflects their Values.

It's classism far more than nebulous "racism".

Tangerine has to be an old cooter with nothing else to do.
I get that we need more posters to challenge the nimrods around here, but his 100% contrarian views that don't make much sense half the time is just a waste of space

I'm pretty sure he knows exactly why the self-appointed 'hood representatives are against it, and that's why he's troubled.

Best thing that can happen to Hollygrove is for Xavier to expand and expand and expand and demolish that neighborhood down to the ground.

That would make Xavier the biggest university in the state considering that Xavier is located in Gert Town and Holly Grove is cross the expressway

the issue is that costs and value of land prevents this due to market forces (well not BREC, but that's a public endeavor and not comparable)

the whole point of gentrification is that it takes areas that are shitty, due to the low property values creating investment opportunities, and improves them with investment, care, and a larger movement to mimic the behavior.

places like CCLA are cost prohibitive to this sort of investment

That's not really the writer's fault though....they were just quoting the man. But, yeah, Marshall thinks the residents are dumb.

Actually jt is the haters who see blacks as a homogeneous group, ridden with crime and drugs.

Yes, classism is alive and kicking. But let's not pretend that discrimination based solely on skin color is not alive and kicking too.

Regarding your statement about wanting to live in a community that reflects their values. While this is true, why are eyebrows raised when a black family moves into a middle class white neighborhood and the residents know nothing about this family other than their color? Also, has it occurred to you the folks from the area do not want a mega-church. But instead might want to keep small community based and local churches run by local pastors that are reflective of their own religion and values?
