HOA Drama and Pettiness

Moved from house with land to a neighborhood with a strict HOA. They have a FB page and i joined it begrudgingly. Man... there is a shitestorm 24/7 going on. Some of the most passive aggressive behavior i've ever witnessed over grass clippings, dogs, house colors, etc. Is this normal or is my neighborhood an exception?

Lot of passive aggressive bitching on my NextDoor app. Not much of it is HOA related, just a lot of veiled racism, worrying about coyotes, and shaming teenage drivers.

I belong to two neighborhood FB groups. These are not part of a HOA or anything so the bitching isn’t too bad. A lot of bored old ladies seem to make most of the post, but if they get out of hand people will step in and make fun of them until they get the point to shut up.
Lately unfortunately though, there are almost nightly car break in and at least a car theft a week, so lots of chatter about that

There are definitely pros and cons.
The pros are all the neighborhood kids for my kids to play with. I also do have some cool neighbors and we all help each other out.
I'd say the biggest con is the HOA stuff. I honestly thought i would like it so it would keep the neighborhood from going down the crapper, but i didn't account for the added extra drama

It's pretty damn simple. Don't look at facebook and don't look at the HOA website. Take care of your yard and home and be glad that someone is out there working to keep your property value up.

Ours bitched so much about "speeders" coming into the neighborhood and enough people called the police that they got the county to post up one of those things that shows how fast you are going and that says "SLOW DOWN" when you go by it too fast.
Was there for like a week then they county removed it

We got one of those as well, but it turned into a competition to see who could get the fastest speed by running by it
It was actually one of the rare fun/good things that happened on our FB page
