Lol. That isnt gonna work. He hasn't proven shite through an interview.
If a company is going to provide you with their leads, current customers to service and sell to etc, they want to see a track record that you can sell and make them money.
I guarantee you this job has a large inside sales component.

I wouldn’t do that. 7 years? They wouldn’t ask for that if you were applying for a $1M loan.

Get the offer and commission first in writing. Then show them your w-2's to prove you can sell shite

Nope, my first interview in 15 years. Again, I had to write up my resume just for this opportunity that someone brought to me. I will stay at my existing company and continue to do what I do if they don’t want to make me an offer because I don’t give them my numbers. If they don’t believe me, how trustworthy will the relationship truly be? Even if I told them I was making $1M a year, and that was false, if they want me based on the 5 week interview process, offer me the lowest you are willing or don’t offer me.
You realize you could be costing yourself a lot of money right? I mean you are assuming they are doing it to save money, that very well could be.
But they may have a tiered pay system or some set schedule in which your W-2's could bump you up from what they are planning.
All I'm saying, is you need to take the afternoon off, have a couple of beers, and relax. Take some time to think about this because you are way too hot right now.
I agree its odd, and I wouldn't be that happy either. But its honestly not worth losing a potentially great job over.

This is correct. I would be managing existing customers within the global and Enterprise space with accounts headquartered here (6-7 total accounts). The goal would be for at least 20% growth year over year....

I agree 7 years is absurd.
2 or 3 years is the norm. Or at least was years ago.

You're wasting your time then. Somehow the w2 situation has become a pretty standard practice in states that haven't made it illegal. My company did a ridiculous background check and work verification, along with also wanting my w2s. I just redacted the financial info and gave them up. If you're not willing to do that, then congrats on continuing at your current job.

Yeah, I knew it was inside sales where they would be entrusting you with their book of business.
Outside sales positions dont ask for prior income verification. Outside sales is all on you and companies churn and burn with zero risk.

If I didn’t sell myself through all the inverviews, including a mock preso, then how could I be.....
Actually, seems like it should make me a stronger candidate by telling them to pound sand on this request. I do that all the time to my existing clients.
PS - you can always fabricate the shite out of your W-2’s anyways. How would they find out? If they don’t trust my word, why should they trust I didn’t doctor some documents

Why do they want them if it's not for financial information?

TnM....this is 100% outside sales. 60/40 split. The inside team is more of operations. My goal would be to get the business each year and expand the presence within the account by 20%

Employment verification. It can save them money time because you're doing the legwork for them.

Interesting. I'm assuming large company?
As mentioned I did sales for a few years. The outside positions or those that were inside but required you to prospect didnt ask for the w2s or tax returns.
The inside position that did was with JP Morgan Chase bank.
I had the job. But they wanted the 3 year verified track record.
As for doctoring stuff, I also had to sign a form authorizing them to pull my transcripts with the IRS to verify against my returns.

Very large. Leading IT research company in the world.
I’ve been doing outside sales for 15 years since I graduated from UGA.

It's not that hard to make a w2 that says whatever you want it to say.
Posted on 7/26/18 at 12:13 pm to IT_Dawg
You're in IT.
Just photoshop 7 years worth of frick You money W2's.
Posted on 7/26/18 at 12:14 pm to IT_Dawg
No, this goes along with people asking to check your credit report while hiring. It has nothing to do with your work.

I am not in sales, but can't an employee have his volume of sales tracked? That wouldn't suffice?

Maybe he should ask for the CEO's and Board of Director's tax returns for the last decade to prove they successfully and exceedingly navigated the economic downturn and rebound by exceeding industry averages?
