I would agree. I was thinking of pay stubs.
But still, you are a such a towering intellect for resorting to name calling. Watch out for that guy!

I'm sure they have plenty of other candidates willing to turn those documents over.
it's not smart of any candidate to offer this info. I treat this question the same as I do with a recruiter when they ask what I'm making. It doesn't matter what I'm making now. Here are the results I've had, how much money I've made my employer, and client and employer references as well. Make me an offer and we can go from there.

checking employment gaps, just provide them with redacted earnings.
I think it's this. Specifically the number 7. That's the usual number when checking employment history. Just redact them.

Just tell them they don’t need a sales person, because, according to Mingo Was His NameO, their customers can just find everything you sell on google for themselves.

That seems sketchy as hell to me. I guess the spin on their end since it is a sales position that I would assume is based on commission that they want to verify sales growth and performance? I don't know, but I wouldn't do it.

The approach I feel I should take is simple.
“I have provided you with my quotas, my quota attainment via my resume and through references and stack rankings. I also informed you that I have been 100% commission for the last 13 years. I do not feel comfortable giving you financial insight into how my organization pays their existing employees. That is not fair or ethical. Furthermore, I have proven with C-level references and throughout my interview process, including the 4 hour mock sales presentation, that I have the capability to provide your organization substantial benefit for adding me to the team. If that is not sufficient enough, I apologize for taking up each of our time during the process”
That is a fair statement.

What does this mean? How do you explain your thought process on this?

A company looking to hire me away from the same job I’ve had in sales for 15 years, is ready to make me an offer with a nice OTE, but have asked to get my last 7 years of W-2’s. I’ve never even heard of that (never interviewed for a job before) and don’t feel like giving away that information. I feel like telling them to pound sand. Im not going to give them a single one. F that nonsense, especially this far along....it’s for IT sales
Don't give it to them. They're just trying to save money by figuring out what it would take to steal you. Your job is not to help them low ball you. I would tell them respectfully I'm not comfortable giving that out and tell them to offer what they feel comfortable offering and then you will decide.

I swear... I don't think many on here understand how sales jobs/compensation works.

There's ways to show them you can sell other than showing them how much money you make. That should be between you and the person that signs your checks.
But frick it, that's what the potential employer works so submit like a peon.

This just happened to my wife. The company wanted her last 2 W-2's before they made her an offer. She gave them and they knew they would have to offer more to get her, so it worked out for us.

How do you know? Maybe they planned to offer her 5k more but saw what she was making? Theres really no way to know if it helped or hurt

She's not in sales.
I know because that isn't how offers work.

When I hire someone, their prior w2 will not change my company's comp plan.
There is no, "let's give him/her a 5% raise" because that is not how commission based employment works.
And at a large company, the base salary is non-negotiable.
The only thing that the w2 will tell the new employer is "what league" you are playing in.
If you are the top salesman in your company and you bring in $80k/yr, it tells me something.
If you are a middle sales rep and bring in $150k/yr, it tells me something.
It doesn't change the comp package that I give you.
It doesn't change the base pay.
The only thing that might change is the draw pay for the first 3 to 6 months.
The $150k/yr sales rep should be able to negotiate a better draw to start out as he/she figures things out at my work.
My perspective is from large companies. Not a mom and pop operation. Not a regional player (although I wouldn't expect much difference excluding a base pay difference which could easily be described as which metropolitan area do you live).

It seems like that information would be protected, much like your medical records. I get why they are asking for them, but that seems kind of chicken shite to me. I would do like a couple of other folks say, and black out the numbers. The other information is none of their fricking business.

But they require your social security number for some interviews. JP Morgan and BofA want socials on your applications.

I see no problem with that, it's protected and they have regulations they have to follow as far as who they hire. Them knowing how much money you make, however, is different

You have every right to say no and not take the job.
But I'm curious as to what you are afraid of with a future employer seeing your w2 (or sets of them).
Do you care to explain the paranoia?

Because what I make now is none of their business.

That isn't a fear.
That isn't a negative consequence.
Why the paranoia?
