I had the same thought. I wonder what his odds of surviving were immediately after he started to fall? 50% if he knew what he was doing? 20%? Of course this assumes he fell over deep waters and not over rocks.

I'm sure there's more to the story than just falling into the ocean. Maybe he landed on his head or hit something on the way down.

Or landed on his back or flat on his stomach like a belly flop. I would think if he landed anyway but feet first it was probably going to kill him unless he was some kind of experienced high diver

This is what the terrain and water is like around there. I think most people would succumb if they just stepped into the water, let alone landing in it from over 100 ft up. And he likely didn't go straight into the water.
