High school wrestler catches herpes from the wrestling mat (with picture)

Blake Flovin says he got infected during another wrestling competition last month.
He says he may have spread that infection to other wrestlers while he was practicing.
So he's calling on officials to postpone the wrestling tournament, scheduled for this weekend, until the incubation period is over.
"They need to be stopped from wrestling or the state tournament needs to be postponed," Blake Flovin, the high school wrestler, said. "So, just trying to prevent this disease from getting to other people."
State sports officials say they'll go ahead with the tournament, but doctors will be on hand.
They also say all wrestlers have to pass a skin inspection before competing.

It's called herpes gladiatorum, commonly seen in wrestling and other sports where lots of skin to skin contact happens

You'd be wrong. "mat herpes" is a real, fairly common thing... google it if you dare.
ETA: and you can get type 1 especially from touching infected surfaces, etc. A Dr. told me many old timer Dr's have it around their fingernails... before glove use was common.
