That goes on usually at every school.

true.

the biggest, loudest complainers of LSU football that i know personally, never played organized sports past little league. but for some reason they always know who should be playing, which coach sucks and what they should do.

Anyway, very very few high school coaches are spiteful to the point where they let an a player who is an asset to the team, sit on the bench. I wont say id doesn't happen but the extreme vast majority of coaches are going to put the best player on the field

Tends to be true.

On my team, I can think of a few players who sat when they should have played and they had dug their own graves to a degree.

One player had been in a dispute with the coach in a prior year and left the team for a while. After he came back, the coach didn’t use him as much as he could have which was a problem as he was the second best athlete on the team at the time.

The other player had fricked up and been unable to play one game he was scheduled to start because he overslept and arrived at school too late. He made a point of finding someone else to be starter at that position as a result. Granted, that was a lost season so it wasn’t like it was costing us a playoff spot for him to make an example of him.

We just had a guy post on here about how to get his son the 18 jersey.

Ah yes, the preseason all-american o-lineman that was playing organized football for the first time and was about to get playing time on the JV team needed to have that #18. Maybe he can organize the parents to get rid of their HC, so his son can get that coveted #18 jersey and be ineligible to play his position on the o-line.

What happens is that you have a few well to do families, some whose roots in the area go back a couple of generations, who influence decision making when they throw their weight around. These are usually the largest donors to the schools booster club. When they have a child, grandchild , niece or nephew, etc. on a team, shite can get political. It is commonplace at most schools but particularly so in small to medium sized towns.

Were they trying to bribe him? What means of influence were the using?

Most of the time it’s not a direct bribe. The parents end up paying for stuff like scoreboards, nice equipment, weightroom remodels, etc. Then the coach is pressured into playing the kid to keep the money flowing and the upgrades coming.

my parents had considerable clout with the school board when I was growing up, they used it only to help other people, I found out about it waay too late, had I known the influence my folks had I would have been the starting qb, taken all the shots in basketball, and the ace pitcher on the baseball team

when it came to matters between me and coaches or teachers they either stayed out of it or initially tended to side with the faculty member

This is why I love coaching track/cross country. Youre either one of the fastest/furthest performer or youre not. No subjectivity. You dont like that little timmy isnt running varsity? Tough they need to get faster.

The same can be done with Youth Football. I can run 4 drills and have 90% of positions filled, 1 drill and have the backfield.

No politics or favoritism.

ETA: I'd be glad to help anyone out in youth football.

Right.

No subjectivity when it comes to talent. They are at the mercy of the stopwatch. Never thought about that
it's glorious. had a parent griping at me about her daughter not running varsity my first year at the school im coaching at now. my response was just sending her the link to the results from the previous week and circling our number 7's time and her daughters time. Never heard from the parent again.

That’s why individual sports are the best! Team sports suck you lose you lose you can’t blame it on someone else.

You in public or private/parochial?

I’m wondering if the LHSAA change in freshman eligibility affected your team.

I think it is more about the first year coach taking over a 10-3 team and starting the season 2-4.

A quick look on Maxpreps,

They were 1-9 last year and are 4-1 so far this year.

I would guess he did a Coach Prime maybe.
I think you looked up a different state. The one in TN went 10-3 and started out 2-4 this year.

Caleb Slover was under a thorough investigation that initially prompted his suspension.
So we know what the investigation and suspension were about?

I mean, it’s easy to believe the story told by the coach especially considering the comment made by the vice principle, but just curious to see if there was more to this story.

It's getting harder and harder to hire teachers much less coaches. Parents have lost their damn minds and kids all think they are going pro. It's the reason I stopped coaching years ago.

Same here.

I coached my nephews in their various sports when they were growing up, and with the extremely rare outlier, the kids were always great. It was the so-called “adults” that you had to deal with that always ruined things.

Probably didn't want to give the star kid a shot in the knee so he could keep playing. Friday Night Lights situation but in reverse.
