So we know what the investigation and suspension were about?

I mean, it’s easy to believe the story told by the coach especially considering the comment made by the vice principle, but just curious to see if there was more to this story.

An unnamed school in North Louisiana had a practice of letting the coach have the vending machine revenue as an off the books supplement. They hired a new guy who pissed off some of the old boosters and suddenly they "discovered" he was raking off money from the vending machines. That's a firing offense of course.

Tale old as time. Coaches don’t seem to complain while talking to the hot MILFs about what her son can do to see the field more.

Cheer or dance team moms are the worst.

I remember in HS a guy owned a local restaurant and would let the football team and cheerleaders eat for free every Thursday but not the dance team.

When an upset parent asked him about it his response was the dance team is fat and don’t need free food lmao

Dude has stones.
HS football in TN is weak. They were lucky to have him.

spiteful to the point where they let an a player who is an asset to the team, sit on the bench..

Happens all the time. Maybe not the best player, but it happens nearly everywhere. Maybe not at powerhouse programs, but how many of those are out there?

I have a granddaughter who is a Junior on her HS volleyball team. She is one of the most talented players on the team. She has been benched and not allowed to play at all in the team's last 7 games. Has been told to trust herself, play with more confidence and "work on her vertical". All excuses by the psycho coach who plays favorites and freshmen before juniors and seniors at times in order to make an example of the upperclassmen. Its been an insufferable season for paw paw and granddaughter to go through.

I know I am in the minority, but yes, there are parents who should try to influence playing time. I wish there were at our school. Perhaps they could get this fricktard coach to resign as well

Most of the time it’s not a direct bribe. The parents end up paying for stuff like scoreboards, nice equipment, weightroom remodels, etc. Then the coach is pressured into playing the kid to keep the money flowing and the upgrades coming.

Was about to ask the same thing. Simple disagreements about playing time wouldn't seem to warrant a suspension on their own.

I wonder if he said something inappropriate to a player/parent/booster who was giving him grief.

Sounds like maybe she hesitates instead of committing on 50-50 balls. Get her a copy of "Inside Volleyball for Women" by Mary Jo Peppler. It's a short book, and dated, but it's got good psychology tips in it that can help anybody in any sport.

And according to two separate D-1 V-ball players I asked when I was playing in rec leagues, the single best way to work on vertical is just jumping rope. There are other, specific exercises for jumping, but that's the one if you only do one.

None of the characteristics you mentioned are relevant here. She performs well enough in these areas. She has been relegated to Full Time JV status and is a Junior. This is all being done because she is being singled out by the psycho coach. For what reason, I am not privy to.

I do indeed thank you for the suggestions and will pass them on, but this is all on the head coach. Doesn't like my granddaughter for reasons I have not been able to discern

Way to stand your ground

Didn't really stand his ground, he tucked tail and ran. I don't blame him, frick all of that but if your gonna coach other people's kids your gonna have to learn to navigate the kids stupid parents and tucking tail and running aint navigating...

The coach is better off. Looks like his administration has no balls.

It is obvious that Coach Slover was not a good fit for Sweetwater High Schoo

Stewardess, I speak jive. Let me translate.

"Coach Slover was not willing to kiss the asses of our parents who make the largest contributions to our school. He was not a "good ol boy", so he must go"

Looks like Coach dodged a bullet here.

My daughter is going through the exact same thing as your granddaughter. She is the best setter on the team and a true leader on the court. Coach plays favorites and enjoys having the player parents kiss her a$$. My daughter was playing varsity in beginning of year but now barely plays jv with no explanation on why. Hardest thing to watch as a parent.

My son’s dealt with it too…he sucked it up for his freshman season, then quit the team. He could have handed them a state championship every year he was in high school…but nope.

Absolutely insane reasoning for my son having to give up his position…because my son would be better at the other position than the kid in his spot…no shite, he’d be better at every other position…shouldn’t mean he gives up the one he’s the best in state at. Glad he quit.
