Don’t get me started about an Range Rover I will complain all night like a Karen to my wife.
Bought it for our anniversary for my wife.
That thing stayed broke.
You think for $115k, the British would have built a more reliable.
Pisses me off just thinking about it.

As far as Hertz car rental the airport locations never had a complaint. One time I landed in Minneapolis and drove to Redwing in the snow. The next morning the power steering went out. They brought me a new vehicle to where I was at and towed the other one back. Surprisingly, no paperwork issues.

Not a lawyer, but there is evidence of the car being rented again somewhere.

Yep. I'd tell them I want a copy of the police report if they claim it's missing

They are actually more reliable since being bought by Tata (Indian). I mean if there is anything the British have been lauded for over the last 70 years it is building reliable cars.

It is funny to me people will research a $400 lawn mower like it is an existential question but when it comes to cars more often than not is is "oooh shiny thing".

This stuff just sucks me right in.

OP demand a bill of sale from Hertz since you bought it. Immediately report it stolen and get the cops to demand the airport drop off footage. It will prove you dropped off the keys and you’re off the hook.

This blows my mind. Who just charges someone's CC for 10k?

Dude, just have an attorney write a scathing letter but also asking for the subsequent rental activity for that car's VIN. This will solve itself. Those cars are tracked.

-get a lawyer
-file a police report
-request airport footage
-request surrounding business footage
-cancel that CC
-use social media and blast them

Yeah. They have tracking software. Get an attorney involved at this point.

Cool starry bra, Butch.

Don’t you people usually prefer Subarus?

Should’ve stayed in your lane.

Hey OP, any updates? I think you need to be VERY proactive on this one. If not they are going to hammer you. Get a copy of the rental contract and read it well. It will spell out what rights you’ve signed over and recouping your legal fees may be something you’ve already given up. I’d check that before I hire an attorney.

I’d immediately find someone in charge and claim fraud on their part. Accuse them of defrauding you out of 10.5k. Demand an accounting of what the money is for. Visit the Olive branch return center and have a conversation with the folks there. Mississippi is also a “one party” recording state. Don’t go up there with an attitude, go up there with your hat in your hand and plead for help. Believe it or not, everyone wants to feel useful, so make them feel that way. Get them to admit their return policy includes “keys on the counter”. Figure out how that violates Hertz internal policies. Hammer Hertz with this information and get it on recording. Record everything and get the name and position of everyone you speak with.

I guarantee Hertz has GPS on this vehicle and knows where it is if they bothered to look for it...

They probably even rented it to someone else.

This is what happens when you get incompetent people in the workforce who probably did not do something procedurally correct and now some computer has a lock on your arse.

Either- prior to seeing the charge officially post yesterday I was in contact with rental location in BR (he said he would escalate to regional GM), regular customer service who said they escalated to the same department that was contacting us but they only communicated via email (no contact), original people/ investigator, Cap One to dispute original charge...going to wait until Monday morning to make another wave of calls and/or hire attorney

Just don't want to be out of pocket anything more than I originally owed on rental

First off, I'm watching the game

We live in Memphis

So my wife is in baton rouge early May for a wedding shower, we have had issues with range rover air suspension since big freeze..was in the shop several times. But was assured it was good..gets failure notice and we put in shop with a 5-10 turn around

Decide to rent car and ship RR back

None of this is relevant to the issue.

I find it hard to believe that they would claim a vehicle is missing and not file a police report for their insurance/company purposes. If there isn't one, there has to be some kind of fraud/harassment lawsuit he could file
