Ya I was just in NY couple months ago . Easily spent $8k. I was there for 11 days

Half of those expenses are paid for with disposable income. Just because they spent it doesn't mean it was part of their disposable income.

Google it yourself if you want. Flights from BHam to NYC can be found at $335. So you have a 50 minute layover...big deal if you're on a budget.

Again...just looked at it on Google. Times Square - which you might consider square - has $150 options. When I went to NYC, I stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in the Financial District for $150/night last summer. They're running around that price right now.

9 meals at $250 comes out to ~$28/person/meal. Do you need a $30/person breakfast each day? Does lunch have to be expensive as well?
It's entirely possible to plan a basic trip to New York without being overly cheap. Y'all really are some OT baller-spending mothafrickas if you think you need $250/day for 3 people to eat food.

The title of the article is "How to make 6 figures a year and still not feel rich"
Now obviously, just because you make 6 figures, that doesn't put you anywhere near rich.
But that being said, that breakdown shows me a family that is pretty darn comfortable.

How is this just getting by? From looking at that budget they are getting everything need/want with $5,700 left over at the end of the year. The only thing I see wrong is they have $5,700 left in their budget. Stick that in a Roth IRA and call it a complete budget.

No doubt NYC is expensive.
I'm more concerned about the 24k for one child to be cared for in the year.
I would think one of the parents would be smart enough to find a job that has a built in day care program.

I don't need to google it, I know what I spend when I go there solo at least once a month.
Last week, my flight - from Boston, mind you - was $250 roundtrip. My hotel was $400 per night, and it wasn't anything fancy.
And $28/meal is not going to get you very far. Breakfast? Sure, just grab some Starbucks and a sandwich. Lunch is going to easily be over $30 per person, but I like to have a beer or two with my lunch when I'm on vacation, so that's just me. Dinner for $28? Not going to happen. Looking more like $50/60 a head at least on an average dinner.
