Don't forget about Hitler and of course Eugene.

GoT does such a good job with religion imo. People watch it and laugh about how insane some of them are, like the Mother of Mountains, then go worship some guy born to a virgin 2000 years ago.

Then someone realizes that the Children are real and start doing Odinic rituals.

You think Islam is the only religion to ever validate murder?

All I can tell you is to pray on it, man. Open your heart and God will show Himself. It's okay to ask questions. It's okay to doubt. Just keep being a good person and God will show you the way. God knows we are all flawed and different people have their reasons for not believing in Him. God won't forsake you. I'll pray for you.

I believe in my Creator and can't thank whom that is enough. If it is God then so be it. There is so much stuff out there, and people on this Earth that have never heard of our God/religions. I don't want to waste the life my Creator gave me and I believe that Creator already knows my moves. I am very blessed for each day that continue to come.

I come from the complete opposite side of the spectrum. Raised heavily Roman Catholic, and went to Catholic school, and felt very much jaded and completely unfulfillled at every single bit of it. One summer vacation I spend the entire summer reading and studying the Bible, and as the scripture began to come alive to me, it was ever more clear how in err the religion itself is to much of scripture, in fact, much of organized religion that I was exposed to was. It all leaned very heavily to control, and much less to what it became to me was a personal relationship, not a membership.

Scriptures like there being 1 mediator between God and man, that being Jesus Christ, made me question exactly what I had been brought up with in praying to saints and Mary, and especially when I considered the very reason for Christ’s death and resurrection was so that we could have a personal relationship with God, as it isn’t a group effort, a God who frowned very much on the organized religious of the day who wore fine garments, knew scripture, but were anything but aligned with the heart of God in their practices. The concept of praying someone out of purgatory, as if there’s even such a place mentioned in scripture, and i have to be in the good graces of the church to get prayed out of it, struck me as mighty convenient in keeping people in the church, but that’s it.

MANY MANY more scriptures caused me to doubt that religion, but also strengthened my faith in God at the same time. I’ve said it many times, and it’s true to me. God created faith, and man created his religions. The ROCK was not a earthly foundation for a denomination, but a truth, a belief and a foundation found in the hearts of people. Christ’s Temple is in our hearts, not behind rose colored stain glass windows, or a pulpit with someone we rely upon to get us to God, instead of building that relationship with Him ourselves by time spent seeking Him and drawing closer to Him in the process.

Truth is, the more I see Christians or Preachers, the more doubt enters my mind, if for no other reason than we often look to them as the examples, and man will ALWAYS let you down. The only time I am strengthened is when I spend time seeking Him. That’s when I am encouraged, and Faith takes over....

Just my 2 cents.

I don't worry about it. There's something up there, I ask for help and go on about life. I don't waste time any more worrying about following rules and rituals set down long ago. Just try to do what's right and ask for help.

Not religious at all, but if I was, I’d consider Catholics heretics.

The Catholic Church openly accepts and promotes idolatry, pedophilia, and avarice, all while interjecting themselves between individual believers and their relationship with God / Jesus.

If Jesus was real and ever came back to Earth, the first thing he’d do would be go to the Vatican and start flipping tables and cracking his whip on what are likely the most corrupt human beings on the planet.

Good for you OP. Always question and always seek the truth. This is too important of a question for you to ever give up trying to learn more.

I would suggest reading a book by Lee Strobel called “The Case for a Creator”. It covers the scientific evidence for creationism as a theory.

No human institution is without flaws but the basic tenets of Catholicism are the same as the original teachings of Christianity.

First off I am a Christian and do believe in God and there are times when we all struggle with our faith it is just the way we are wired.

But I have to ask. If Catholics are Christians, and Christians believe in the Bible where in the Bible does it speak about purgatory? I have read it from cover to cover and have seen nothing on this topic.

God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain
I'll say it again
God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in yoga
I don't believe in kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles

I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality
The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the dream weaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You just have to carry on
The dream is over

The bible was not compiled until the councils of Hippo and Carthage in around AD 400. Before then there was not a definitive set of books viewed as the canonical New Testament. There were many non inspired books that were rejected in the canon. Add to this the books were written anywhere from 20 to 80 years after the death of Christ and you start to realize that tradition is what made up the way early Christians worshiped. Another note is that the printing press was not developed until approximately 1400 years after Christ and that the only bibles available were very expensive and hand written. This means common man was not able to practice religion by reading the bible. The bible was not written in English and is an interpretation of what the original texts stated in more ancient languages. This is why you find so many different English interpretations of the bible. Lastly if the bible is so clear why are there tens of thousands of protestant denominations that all read the same text and come to different interpretations?
