FAITH is the answer to your problem. You didn't say why you left the Baptist belief. I recommend that you get a modern language version of the bible and start reading first in the new testatment. God says that if you seek the truth you will find it. Do you really want to know the truth?

I have never bought into Christianity or any religion for that matter. I’m no atheist and I never bash religion with the exception of those that validate murder (cough Islam cough). Part of me feels that it’s all so silly when sitting in mass/church. I keep it to myself and I’ll be downvoted into oblivion I’m sure but just feels like it’s all a sham that evolves based on current human conditions. I just want to live a good life and do good for people when the opportunity presents itself. I don’t believe I need an ancient text, weekly meet ups, or belief in some figure to leave behind a good legacy.

Wait, you're talking about the modern Roman Catholic Church here. Wow. No.

The basis of my belief in God is the presence of the universe and the gift of life itself. We are here because something bigger than us wills it to 'be.'
I hate evil and greed.
I believe in inherent goodness.
I find religions to be self serving and they have fostered evil and greed in abundance (refer to Inquisition, etc).

In the end....do we answer for our actions on Earth?
I say yes.
Be good. Do good. Help the less fortunate. Protect the weak.

However, I rebel against religions and faiths telling me to believe exactly what they believe 'or else' I get to go to hell!!!!

I could be hella wrong.

Catholicism was overthrown as the true “Christian” religion centuries ago when people realized they were a puppet organization running a ponzie scheme for money and started the Protestant revolutions. Go god!

Well jcaz,
Many religions have validated murder from time to time.
Protestants, Catholics, Jewish.
Hell, Missouri had a law in its books making it legal to kill a Mormon on site...that wasn't rebuked until 1974!!

As a war veteran....I have looked into lots of religion. Soul searching, if you will.

Even some of the Muslim faith is beautiful. Too much of it is malleable. Thus, the lending itself to current day violence.

All said, I have no freaking clue. But yeah; be a good person.

More people have been murdered for God than any other reason. Such peaceful people.

Truth is what is.

No one is the arbiter.

As for your issue with god as anthropomorphic daddy issues you are right. All that stuff is invented, God the father, the big other is a myth.

There is only the one conscious divine light.
The entirety of existence is the one. No difference.

I saw NDT make a point the other day. God can't be all powerful and all good.
If he is only responsible for the good things that happen, then he's not all powerful. If he's responsible for the bad things then he can't be all good. My issue with the bible is that I actually read it cover to cover. God killed to prove a point to the devil, killed kids for calling a bald man bald.

The only way I could even consider the religion is to cast out the old Testament.

I feel like life is better without God and I save 10% of my income.

There is no truth without an arbiter. Without any authority to reinforce and affirm claims, everything is right and permissible.

Lol at people in this thread telling the OP to just blindly believe in something.

Do whatever you need to do, just don't stop your blind belief!

Aurelius is the preeminent Stoic, and perhaps the very best source of orthopraxic insight. I think a healthy mixture of Christian and Stoic understanding is the best possible thing to do, for a Westerner.
