I had something similar but much lower speeds. He got me for going 55 in a 35. I was sitting at a light 100 feet from the parking lot in which the speed trap was set up, which also happened to be my destination. I never even had time to get up to 55 if I wanted to. I didn’t think anything of it. I pulled into this parking lot, parked, started looking at my phone when I was surprised by a knock on the window. The cop then briefly accused me of evading before just writing me a speeding ticket.
My theory is he never saw me supposedly speeding, that he just saw me pull off and assumed I did so to dodge the speed trap. With no evidence for evasion he wrote me a speeding ticket just to get me for something.

Get a small office attorney and let him tackle it. They all meet somewhere after hours, get sloshed, and the DAs drive home over the legal limit after prosecuting DUIs all day.
Pay the attorney, let him haggle, pay some BS lower ticket. And profit from not having your insurance crush you.
ETA: don’t friken call the city attorney and tell him you were doing anything but the limit. Just.. just…. Don’t.

Had a similar thing on I-49, Washington LA. When they changed speed limit to 75, I had cruise set at 77, in the right lane, getting passed.. get pulled over cop says they clocked me at 81.. at the end of the day that is technically speeding, especially in Washington.. called the number on back had it moved down to something else that would not go on record and paid up.

Your best path forward is to start a butthole relaxation regimem, you'll need to keister stash things and satisfy your cellmate Lamont.
Your defense is you were breaking the law? Lol

Call the DA and explain your situation. You were still likely speeding so if the DA isn't an a-hole they can move it down to a non-moving violation if you agree to pay for a lesser fine on time.
This and get local counsel. You will probably have to pay $300-500 and see what you can get it knocked down to. Maybe some sort of diversion if they agree to it, usually that doesnt work for 90+ tickets.
But get local counsel bottom line. Do not try to f*** around here and play innocent. They will eat you up.

You sure your gauge wasn't set to kph instead of mph.
Oh wait, if it was, you would have received a ticket for going too slow.

Go to court and they have to provide evidence that you were going 98
Of course, if the evidence says you were actually going 80, you still get a ticket.
Just because he lied to you does t get you off the hook.

Dang. I thought 80 was acceptable now. I’ve passed several (stationary) cops on n I-10 doing 80 in a 70 and haven’t been pulled over. They weren’t too happy about the 80 in 65 though. I paid for that one.

Learn your lesson and buy a radar detector like the rest of us.

When in court ask the judge if you can approach the bench, then slip him a 50
Posted on 7/31/25 at 5:31 pm to oldtrucker
For context I was going 80 in a 75 zone

Make sure to ask the judge for the "I was only breaking the law a little bit" discount.

Without a dash cam, it’s basically gonna be if you get lucky that day in court

They just have to say you are speeding. They don't have to prove it. It's up to you to prove you weren't. Get all the body cam and dash cam video and all the info you can dig up on the cop and post it up here. Let the OT help you win this case.

Depends on the court and the judge. A lot of the time they are throwing out an 80 in a 75 because there is error allowed and judges are humans as well
No idea the situation and if he can prove he was going around 80. If the evidence shows 82 it's not as good as if the evidence shows 78 of course
