Or if you want to physically help out, message me and I’ll give you my # and you can come out here and help us.
I have a friend and 4 of his ex infantry that are mountain trained and want to help. Do you know what papers they need for search and rescue/supply delivery by foot?
Also, I live in Concord NC and have a room if you need it.
To anyone with medical contacts and planning to make the trip up here, the main supply needed per my contact in Black Mountain is body bags, a refrigeration truck and lots of prayers.
Edit to add
Therefore, if you plan to move people, resources, or equipment into western North Carolina, you MUST coordinate plans and movements through the NCEM-BEOC.
You can email your supply logistics or movement requests to: BEOC@ncdps.gov, make sure to begin your Subject Line with: Logistics Support.
Please include the following info:
What are you moving? Why you need special access.
When do you plan to move and from where?
Where are you going?
When will they arrive at the “border to Western NC” and where?

Nothing can penetrate it.
i think there's also an element of them denying, or downplaying, any event of which they cannot pretend to be a victim...

It's called cognitive dissonance.

I mean, I am sure there were plenty of things that run on electricity/battery that have been helpful to people.

Its amazing how you can write this and have zero self-reflection.. It just goes to show how deeply people are set in their beliefs no matter how irrational and short-sighted those beliefs are. I would laugh but honestly its not amusing...just depressing.

You sure you want to ski that ice?
My "ice" skis in Colorado would basically be powder skis in NC.

Solar comes in handy
Are you talking about small solar panels to recharge things like cell phones, rechargeable batteries for flashlights, etc, or are you talking about solar panels large enough to provide significant power. The portable panels for recharging small devices are handy in these type situations, but residential solar is not. I researched rooftop residential solar panels before I bought a backup generator two months or so ago. If you have just solar panels then they hook into the grid. If the grid goes down, they turn off. If you pay for a very expensive battery system and some type of switch and integrator things (I don't know the name of it) then the solar will recharge your battery and your house can draw power from the battery. However, the batteries do not last very long and while the solar panels are charging the battery the integrator thing does not let your house get power from the solar panels. So it sounds like solar is less than ideal for extended power outages.

This link will take you to pictures of Douglas Lake five days ago.
The water you see almost all came from North Carolina. Douglas is spilling as much as it can.
This is what Douglas looks like midsummer, full to the almost brim.
Winter, Douglas is one of the TVA dams that they draw down to nearly mudflats to hold back what would be flood waters as the winter rains come.
Imagine if you can, dropping that water level seventeen feet down...which is where it was when Helene came. TVA worked! Their dams held. the down stream/river flooding could have been disastrous., But it wasn't. And that means the folks downstream can help the folks up stream.

What The frick. I really can't imagine. Those people probably normally have a nice view outside of their apartment window. But now there's a giant 20 ft deep raging river filled with debris surrounding you.
Unfortunately I really feel as if the death toll is being severly undercounted as of now.

Still plenty of value to be had. I have been looking at a cabin outside boone. Nice area, big lot. 3 bed 2.5 bath. Big basement/game room and big deck. 300k

An FYI for folks wanting to head.to WNC to help.
My cousin works in the Greensboro city clerk's office and shared this on Facebook from the city clerk of Boone.

The Town is so grateful for the outpour of donations and volunteers that have come together to support them. At this time, they are inundated with volunteers and supplies. Please donate money or send resources and volunteers elsewhere. Their infrastructure is unable to handle more people, supplies or donations right now. They are very grateful for the outpour that they have received.

Isn't that why NC is asking people to coordinate with its state agency so volunteers can go where they are needed?

Traffic is a bitch right now. Worker convoys, national guard, individuals coming home, and well intentioned people coming wanting to help. Not to mention businesses have started to open and people are starting to go back to work.
Best to just stay away. There are more than enough volunteers.
