Canton is pretty downtrodden place. Lots of poverty. Sad.

and its going to park over TN/KY and just dump on it?

The remnants of Helene will be absorbed by the low and Helene will cease to exist as a tropical entity. The low that absorbed her will then move off to the east.

Here is how NHC describes it in their forecast discussion:
quote:

Helene is expected to move slower to the northwest later today and then stall over the Tennessee Valley tonight and through the weekend as it merges with a mid- to upper-level low. This merger will also lead to extratropical transition, which is expected to occur later today. The expected slow motion could result in significant flooding over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, and over the southern Appalachians through the weekend.

Asheville - still 5 more feet of rise before cresting just below record.

East of Asheville - another record

The larger issue too for us is that it's already been raining from that low. The ground is absolutely saturated (we've already locally had around 1.5 inches of rain since midnight in some parts, almost all over an inch). We won't get Helene remnants for another hour or so and wind is picking up.

We also have Louder than Life this weekend that brings in about 150-200k, so it'll be interesting to see what happens there. Right now they're in a delay to start.

The remnant center of circulation is moving through northwest Tennessee and into Kentucky as it gets absorbed by the upper level low.

Pretty good drop from Wednesday afternoon here in North AL.

Looks like we've got a dam failure in NC as well.

It was in the absolute worst spot for surge. ~15 miles SE of where center made landfall.

Eye was ~35 miles in diameter. Half of that is ~17 and that is where eastern eyewall pushed greatest surge. Will be interesting to see the surge estimates from NWS/NHC.

When you think about it, with all of the small creeks and streams in the neighborhoods of city proper, it makes sense with as much rain that fell in such a short period of time.

I feel like Atlanta is kind of an odd place in that we've got a good bit of water in the forms of rivers/streams/creeks close in to the city (to contrast with say, Dallas) but things are just built in such a way that even in fairly historic rain events like this, there won't be tons of inundation.

I've lived in multiple parts of the metro and it's sometimes hard to comprehend the type of major flooding threat other regions live under.

Vinings right now has flooding that's rivaling the 2009 mess, a bunch of stuff is underwater.

Where did they officially call it? Keaton Beach was close enough to pretty much be the landfall spot. Dekle Beach may be more accurate.

I have family in East Cobb close to Walton high school and they’ve never come close to having any flooding issues and they’ve been there since the mid 90’s.

To be fair I think that statement from Kamala is several weeks old. Still an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Of course if Trump had said something similar several weeks ago the msm would claim he said it this morning and keep repeating it so that the Harris/Waltz campaign could use it against Trump.
