Dumb question but would these storm chasers be better off using Starlink for their connection? A few have/ are close to losing live feeds as cell towers are going down.

Sorry. I thought I heard them say it had indeed and “declared” it.

I must admit, the Reed Timmer stream is/was one of the lamest things I've had on in the background in a long time.

So 140mph winds at 33 feet won’t necessarily translate to 140 mph on the ground.

pretty sure starlink cannot perform under heavy clouds

Everyone sees it. Not sure why the official call hasn't been made.

That Steinhatchee gauge hasn't reported in nearly 2 hours. I think it's broken.

Is the bottom level open?? Hard to tell
No. Its flat and the water will start to come in. Its a little raised from the garage but not much. I think the water has already breached the back retaining walls and is in his swimming pool now.
Looks like the water is also coming down the street he lives on and it filling up his yard and right up to the house. He still has a hour or so from high tide

Blue house is a great place to fish off the sea wall if you just want to throw some lines out. I have stayed is several houses over the years that are to the right a couple hundred yards. If nobody is renting it when I am down there , I will walk down and fish there. The under house parking goes to the sea wall. Hope she makes it.

It would still have issues.

Welcome to the club brother, i’ve been complaining and asking for years
My conclusion is that it is pretty rare to ever get as-advertised wind speeds at/after landfall because anemometers break, we lack good data and perhaps more controversially…most of the time whether by overestimation or interaction with land, you genuinely don’t ever see sustained 140 in a 140 storm and you sometimes barely record gusts at the sustained peak.
I’m not trying to be stubborn on it, but none of our weather pros have really ever tried to dissuade me that it’s a combo of those realities so that’s where Ive landed on it

Ryan Hall has a cam at Steinhatchee and the surge looks insane

That sucks. How are you and your business?

I tried to watch his stream a while back and he was just too over the top

I hate most nighttime hurricane chaser livestreams. I much prefer the remote cam approach in the dangerous areas. There is only so much windshield wiper action I can watch.

Recon is pretty wand wavy. Plus winds slow down over land due to friction. There's little friction over water. Then you have to have instruments in the right place to measure the strongest winds. Were these winds 140 mph sustained over land? Probably not. Ok, definitely not. But they might have been over water. It's also decaying some. It doesn't look like a 140 mph hurricane on radar. Just from looking at these things for 30 years.
