Nope that’s approaching Katrina Waveland/bay St. Louis levels of surge. Will be nothing left but slabs for many if that comes to fruition
Reminds me of Holly Beach with Rita
My family’s camp was on the beach and all that remained was a slab.

How populated is the area expected to be affected? Any idea if it’s homes or vacation homes? Sucks either way of course but I’d rather my vacation home than my home get hit.
The coastal areas aren't very populated

They’re saying up here (Kentucky) once it makes landfall we’re going to get a shite ton of rain between Fri-Sun.
Hoping we can avoid the wind we had when Ike held together. That shite knocked us out of power for two weeks.

Yeah, we were moving along pretty well, and then some strong shear out of Georgia infiltrated the core.
Need to get back on track, folks!

To be fair, we're kinda at the lighthearted stage of a Hurricane thread.
The storm has developed, so that part is down.
It's out in open water with no immediate threat to land.
Now we wait on updates to see what changes.
I'm sure by later this afternoon we might break off an observation thread so we can keep this one more on track...

Is Helene still having trouble forming a proper eye?
Also, genuinely curious what prevents or fights a hurricane from forming an eye?

It really did shift east a good bit. Atl may make it out alive after all.
Still a massive amount of precip on the way. All the best to those in the direct path

Big Bend isn’t very populated. If the storm goes east of Tallahassee the worst parts of it should impact the least populated areas of Florida

Map is showing the eye go directly over the central city, am I missing something?

For some odd reason, hurricanes can be baby making times.
It may be due to low barometric pressure. Making it easier for baby components (egg and sperm) to travel and meet.
