Yea I agree. I stayed and I promised myself and my family that we will never do that again. I remember all of us in one of my kids rooms bc it was interior just listing to the wind howl.
There was a couple of times I was watching the walls of my house move at lest an inch. There was several times I thought I was going to lose some of the house.
I remember the next morning trying to get to my parents house to check on the

Riding out a hurricane, at night, with pine trees swaying and creaking, and things constantly falling on the roof and flying against your windows is an incredibly unnerving experience. Starting to hear trees snap and fall is even worse

A SAR image from about 2 hours ago shows how Hurricane #Helene's wind field is structured. As the storm core continues to mix out dry air, a large, almost double-ring structure is present, with the strongest winds still 40-50 miles from the center in some places.
This broad core is holding Helene's intensification rate at a steady - as opposed to rapid - pace for now, and hopefully that hindrance can continue for a bit longer, but the expectation is that Helene will begin strengthening more quickly overnight tonight and tomorrow morning.
The large core wind field is also unfortunate news because of its increased capacity to drive storm surge, which is one of the reasons predicted inundation values in #Florida are so high with this storm.

He has a point, and Levi more or less backs it up in the tweet I just posted. They haven't found 85mph winds anywhere in that storm during this mission.

I rode out Ida in a building in Downtown Houma at work. I could not feel much of anything since I was in the middle of the building, but I could see the scene outside on some monitors. We did feel the pressure change when an unsecured door was pushed open.
The worst feeling is the unknown and the lack of communications. Cell service got pretty spotty after the storm. My favorite was AT&T, they went out as night was falling. My Verizon phone stayed working until the next day in early morning hours. I did a quick Facebook Live Video of some the damage, but shortly after Verizon stopped working too. Even REV was getting a little spotty with Fiber internet and landline service.

They might not be on for long. Hoping for the best for that area even though it’s not looking great, Mexico Beach-Carrabelle and beyond is an incredible little part of the world.
