The interesting thing about obese patients in the ICU is that they tend to recover just fine. It's weird, but obesity seems to give them an advantage in recovery vs thin patients.

This virus makes breathing more difficult. In this case someone who is obese, likely has decrease lung capacity because they don’t exercise. Someone like my dad who is fat, runs 3 miles a day but eats a tray of cookies after would likely be fine, because he has a good lung capacity

Are you sure about that? Wouldn't the extra weight cause the heart and lungs to work harder to keep up?

I see them all the time. Hell, you could classify every NFL linemen as obese and they could pass every physical test given with flying colors.

Again, I’m not taking up for the fatties. Just saying that it’s possible. Also, if you’re 20lbs overweight you’re considered obese by medical standards so where do you draw the fat line?

He looks like Chandler from Friends. I kept double taking the pic trying to figure out who I think he looks like.

So do lawyers that live in Shreveport, does that make them a New Orleans lawyer?

I know they'd pass the physicals with no trouble, I'm about 40-50lbs at 31yo overweight and I still pass the tests.

My question was more directed at those that get a serious ailment like pneumonia.

I'm pretty sure that camera angles can affect the appearance of one's size in photos. We see seemingly supersized fish, snakes, etc. in photos all the time.

I think that the idiots who've commented about this man's size should take a photo from a similar angle and see how amazingly obese they would appear.

And, a lot of you need to look up the definition of "morbidly obese". You clearly don't know what it means.

So he doesn’t live in New Orleans, his office is on the Northshore and he’s in a Jefferson Parish Hospital,

Where does “He’s a New Orleans Lawyer” fit into this story?

100 pounds over ideal body weight is one way to be classified as morbidly obese

He appears to be that. That does not mean his sickness is any less sad, but it’s something important that will be noted on his case file

If prexisting conditions included obesity, a lot of people in this country are in trouble
