Imagine facing federal charges for hiking outdoors maskless.

A Washington State man is facing federal charges for allegedly organizing a largely unmasked, non-socially distanced, 153-person hike across the Grand Canyon that not only violated COVID-19 restrictions but normal group size limits, too.

Joseph Don Mount, who until recently was the chief operating officer at a Chehalis, Washington, medical clinic, is also accused of lying to National Park Service officials about his plans, which included having two buses and three vans transport attendees to and from the October 2020 event, according to a criminal complaint made public on May 5 in Arizona federal court. An administrator at the Steck Clinic confirmed that Mount no longer works there.

These people need to be stopped. Our government is full of idiots.

Imagine the media coverage if this was a leader of an all black group getting arrested.

So this tells me having 153 people hike along the Grand Canyon unorganized is fine. But being organized isn’t. That’s exactly what the government wants: no coordination amongst the people to stop their repression.

You can never have that many do that hike...long before COVID
Unless he was strictly doing this hike in one day...you have to have special permits to camp overnight there.

To minimize environmental impact, rim-to-rim hikes such as the one Mount is accused of carrying out have been strictly limited to groups of 30 or fewer since 2014.

From Yahoo
quote:
To minimize environmental impact, rim-to-rim hikes such as the one Mount is accused of carrying out have been strictly limited to groups of 30 or fewer since 2014. In an effort to stem the COVID pandemic, rim-to-rim hikes have since been limited to 11 people. Mount suggested everyone on the trip bring walkie-talkies to coordinate so they would avoid being seen in a big group, Park Ranger Timothy Hopp said in an affidavit attached to the complaint.
Mount, 34, now faces five misdemeanor counts: knowingly giving a false or fictitious report; intentionally interfering with a government employee while engaged in official duties; soliciting business in a park area without a permit; violating the normal group size limit; and violating COVID-19 mitigation group size limits.

Hmmm, I wonder what Federal Charges the Federal government should be charged with?
Churches across this country would like to get in on this as well.
Yeah, I know, I know, outdated document written by old white men no longer applies anymore.

frick any individual that thinks federal charges is a proportional response for not wearing a mask on a hike. Seriously, you deserve to be beaten with a wet chain if you agree with this.

153 disorganized people is ok. Also, you can take the 153 organized people and put them into groups with 30 or less to do the hikes.

If five groups of 30 people applied for permits to hike the same trail on the exact days NPS would deny the majority of requests.
I feel the people who don't see a problem with what the accused did haven't planned a rim-to-rim trip in the Grand Canyon.

I certainly don’t care about the Covid rules, but I don’t have a problem busting him for breaking National Park rules. If you had to get a permit snd he only got a permit for 11 people and took 153 bust him, if you don’t need a permit and he took 153 people in a bunch of small groups then they can pound sand.

But it was outside, who gives a frick if they're not wearing mask, or "social distancing." Why even bring that up?

Should have called it a protest against cops and they’d be applauded

Are the charges for masks or too many people?
