Exit at bay st louis and cut over to picayune/i59
Might not be worth it. You can't cross the Pearl River at Picayune. You have to go all the way to Poplarville and cross at Bogalusa.
As a bonus, 43 is closed about 8 miles north of Picayune so you have an additional detour.
If you come back on 59 to Slidell you'll likely hit additional snags.

Detour through Picayune adds 15-20 minutes or so.

Looks like a nice scenic drive through the Rigolets for me
US 90 Bridge over the Pearl is out too.
Need to head up to 603 towards Picayune and turn on Texas Flat Road, that will take you around Stennis and you will come to 607 north of the Stennis North gate. Head to 59 and turn south to bypass this cluster.
Stennis should open the gate and allow through traffic when the interstate gets this screwed up.
I remember when a lost Houma baw high on life went to the Stennis gate and got turned around. Since he was high on something, he freaked out and got lost in the woods on some backroad. He left his car and stripped himself naked. A day or two later they found him in some utility shed by a power substation.

It'll be more than that. If you take exit 13 to Texas Flat to 607 and get on 59 in Nicholson, it's 15-20 minutes just to the interchange. Then 12 miles to get back to I-10. You'll have a snag on 607 getting onto the interstate because of traffic detouring away from the original problem.

That was also a cluster yesterday. Traffic was backed up from the 59 interchange all the way into Hancock County.

Instead of offering limo service for the high rollers coming to and from New Orleans, they should offer helicopter service to and from the gulf coast casinos.

Lane closure started yesterday. Had no idea. 2 hours from about mile 10 to the state line. Had to add an extra day into my dog’s stay at the boarding place

Great to know alternate routes. If LA DOTD is involved, 2 weeks will morph into many weeks.

It doesn’t sound like there are any good alternate routes. Unless by good, we mean turning a 6 hour trip into an 8 hour trip.

I guess the repair could not wait until winter when it’s not hurricane season and not major coast travel season?

Just spent 2 hours in that mess!

Not really any good alternate routes with 2 other bridges also closed
Just travel the area very early in the morning or late at night if possible

Exit 24 (Menge Ave) on 10 is also a mess. They are replacing the bridge at that exit and yesterday t was terrible.

Just wait until the Bucee’s is there. That is why they are doing the work there to improve the exit for the new Bucees going there.

Traffic was way backed up down 607 at the Stennis exit. Never seen it like that before…but I only go on-site once a week. Cluster frick for sure.

I am usually a once a weeker visitor to several gaming establishments along the coast mainly on Sundays, I may have to forego my travels and stay home. This weekend with all the extended stay holiday travelers coming back home, I could just imagine the back up this Sunday afternoon and evening. It may make it all the way to the 603 exit in Kiln/Bay St. Louis.

Friend,
Many thanks for sharing this information. We returned from Florida this evening. Uncle had read an article on the Times Picayune States Item website alerting westbound travelers of I-10's restriction of one lane, so we charted our course using our trusty atlas.
Using a ruler, we estimated the best alternative route and followed it. Tonight this route added 20 minutes to our normal trip's time. If you use Google Maps, it will not suggest this route, but at least tonight, it likely saved us time. Best of all, it means you do not have to cross that terrifying I-10 bridge over the Pearl River. The I-59 bridge over the Pearl has no elevation whatsoever, and you would hardly know that the bridge is a bridge if it did not have a sign reading "Pearl River."
If NASA is no longer using barges to bring equipment and craft up the Pearl, the DOT should consider building a new, less horrifying and elevated bridge. The current bridge is a terrible and dangerous and scary bridge. There is no reason it should be so bad. It is long past time to have a new I-10 bridge over the Pearl that is three lanes with a shoulder in both directions. Such a bridge would save lives and save me from having to take benadryl every time we go that way.
Here are the directions and photos of what to look for:
I-10 West:
1. Take Exit 13 to Picayune. At the exit, turn right, which is in the northern direction toward Picayune.
2. Follow this highway, Highway 603 or 43, north for approximately a mile. You will come to this light at the corner of Texas Flat Rd. You will take a left here. Shortly afterward, you will see an airport to your left, which at night, has the most beautiful lights. Consider pulling over and contemplating light's beauty.
3. Continue on Texas Flat Rd (does anyone know this road’s etymology?) a mostly straight road that has no dividers and has other cars traveling in the opposite direction at 55-70 MPH. It does not seem the safest. The good news is that Magic 101.9 comes in clearly even on this rural road. We heard and I sang Bryan Adams' touching I Do It for You. This was the same song that played while I danced with my first crush at my first JCC sockhop.
4. After following Texas Flat for about 10-12 miles, you will come across a fork that directs you either north or south on Highway 607. Go north by taking a right. This is a picture of the sign you will see.
5. Follow Highway 607 north for about three miles. You will come to I-59. At night, it comes quickly and is poorly lit. It may look a little like this:
6. The first exit for I-59 goes north. Do not take this exit. Take the second exit, which is poorly marked and there are no lights here. Uncle actually missed the left turn to enter I-59 headed south.. Thankfully, less than a block after the poorly lit and marked entrance to the interstate, there is a well lit Shell station. You can pull in here, turn around, and drive back a block. You would then merge onto I-59 by turning right. It is about 10 miles before we returned to familiar territory and merged with I-10 just north of Slidell.
Notice in the bottom left of the picture that the Shell advertises for two two liter drinks for $3, which is 2.23 cents per ounce. (In comparison the two 20ox for $4 is 10 cents per ounce). Although carbonated sweet drinks are a health hazard and part of the obesity epidemic, if they honor this price, you will be hard pressed to find a bette price. For instance, Walmart, who usually does well on two liter pricing is $1.68 per two liter.
May your drives be swift and safe, and may we all show courtesy on the roads, for all drivers, as annoying, angry, and bad as they might be, are our neighbors and we are commanded to love them.
Yours,
TulaneLSU
