I don’t get it for alcohol. If you can’t quit alcohol on your own, I don’t see where going to some isolated resort for a few weeks will change that.
Detox off alcohol and benzos can be fatal and should be medically managed.
Detox off opiates is not fatal - though you may feel like you are dying if not medically managed with symptom control

This is a topic that you clearly have no insight on. Your thoughts about alcoholism are better left in your head. Please dont share those with any actual addicts. Your "help" will only cause them to feel more like a failure when they, "just cant stop".

Make 5 years on the 20th. If a pathetic alcoholic junkball like me can kick, anyone can. Be honest and willing in your search for the solution and prepare to have your fricking mind blown. Good luck

Prayers and support sent brother. I've walked in your shoes and made that same decision to get professional help on 12-27-87. Been clean and sober for 31 years living 1 day at a time. I pray the Serenity Prayer daily and occasionally still get urges to freebase, smoke heroin, drink a fifth of Jaegermeister, inhale 50 Whip Its, eat a handful of Valium, and do multiple doses of liquid LSD. As an addict, my drug of choice was anything that got me really, really, Fk'd up.
Addicts have no problem justifying and/or denying their problems. We are master manipulators who will lie, cheat, and steal from our friends and family just to get that fix - regardless of your addiction. Everybody experiences a different rock bottom. Mine just happened to be when I was 19, and knew that I needed help and had to change my lifestyle. Only YOU can decide when you've had enough. Sadly, some people aren't given a second chance as my worst experiences sober is being a pall-bearer for my friends who OD'd or died because of their addiction.
If you or any other member of this TD community wants to talk or needs support, reach out to me as I'll help you any way I can. Glad to see the strong support from others who get it, and know what you're going through.

My kind of party. Congrats on your sobriety.

Thanks brother, greatly appreciate it. Congrats to you and others who are sober today. When I partied, I didn't GAF about anyone except myself. Should have died on several occasions and did some stupid things in my youth: 16-yr-old white kid buying 8-balls from drug dealers in the Callio (Calliope Projects), and swallowing 17 Soma's playing quarters with my friends when I was at LSU. The only thing that saved me was making myself throw up. I knew if I passed out I would have OD'd. The man upstairs gave me a second chance in life, and I'll do whatever I have to do to share my story and save another person's life.

Alcohol withdrawal can kill you. End of story. If you are detoxing, you can't just lay in your bed for a few days and survive.
Some of y'all educate yourselves before posting this non sense.

I can understand rehab for hardcore drugs, or someone that got hooked on opioids after being prescribed, etc.

You got this shite, man. Gonna be a hell of a challenge, but you’ll own it in the end. Good luck, brotha. All the respect in the world for you.

Best of luck to you, man. This is a hell of a scary step that you are taking...push through the process and check in here when you can.
