So as my dad gets older, he has started telling me stories he never told me before.
My dad was in the navy during the early 60s.
The story is while in port (probably San Francisco) a shipmate told my dad that he was going out to "roll a queer". Basically he meant he was going to beat up a gay dude and take his cock sucking money.
Well, the opposite happen. He got his arse kicked, face all fricked up, and robbed.
I'm no supporter of the gay lifestyle, but I certainly don't condone beating people up because they are different than me. That's truly a mark of a non-Christian and ignorant fool.

Daddy always told me "If you're gonna be queer, you gotta be tough." Or was it dumb? I don't remember.

A friend’s father attended LSU in the early 1960’s and said before a football game they’d roll an Aggie corp member and drag them into a dark corner of Tiger Stadium and steal their leather boots.
Same sort of thing.

It's not really the gay men...... For the most part they are work-a-day men, tired when they get home, normal dudes.
Lesbians and Trans on the other hand....

No but we used to play smear the queer

And your dad believed him? The shipmate was out trolling for cock.

More common term used in the 60's and 70's was rolling a fruit. Gay and queer became more common in the later 70's.
I remember an English teacher posting a memorial in our High School yearbook in reference to a student of his that died during the school year and he refered to that student as a Gay Lothario. Forty five years ago that meant a happy go lucky user of women . Today that could have a whole other meaning I would imagine.

Yep, and it was part of some of my friends weekend activities to get some spending money.
They'd go up to the French Quarter and just walk the streets waiting for the gay guy to come rolling along in his car offering them some type easy money.
Get in the car and beat the crap out of them, take their money and walk off like nothing happened.
This was long before being gay was out in the open like it is now, so hardly any of these type crimes got reported for fear of being found out.

heard it weekly at the frat house while at LSU
"what do y'all want to do?"
"well, we could go to the quarter and roll some queers or go to Miller Dorm and sniff bicycle seats...?"
never heard of any queers getting rolled though
