I was district champ in the 3200m in HS. Got smoked in the regionals though, those guys were just on a different level but I still beat everyone from my district in that meet as well. Never won any state titles. Congrats on your son's team's accomplishments, it really is something you remember your whole life.

Very cool. I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on outcome though.

My son has won many tournaments…but there’s always another challenge twice as hard the last one. Can’t get comfortable.

5th grade little league baseball and 8th grade peewee football.

My summer league baseball team in 3nd grade was undefeated going into the championship, but lost to the fricking Dodgers who were a middling team that got hot in the playoffs. Still salty about that one.

ETA: I was a 4-time conference champ and 3-time sectional champ in swimming in high school. I don't really think of them as "championships" per se (that was State in my mind).

Sort of related but not really- in high school i lettered in something called ‘Varsity Star Quiz Bowl’, where we went on PBS channel 12 in NOLA and competed in trivia competitions against other schools.. true story.. and im not even embarrassed about it, though i probably should be .

Won football state championship in football my senior year. Playing in the super dome was a highlight of my life. 2001, won sec championship at LSU Fast forward to 2003, we won a national championship in the same building at LSU. Didn’t think it could get better and did. Awesome experience in sports overall.

Also, on a smaller personal scale, won my club championship in 2012. Had to birdie the last hole on the last day to shoot 71 and take my best friend to a 2 hole playoff to do it. Was a great weekend

It was just Varsity Quiz Bowl (no "star") when I was on it. I think they changed in the mid or late 1980s.

And we didn't receive a "letter" for it back then.

Yep, PBS Channel 12. Mel Leavitt hosted back in my day...

You shouldn't be embarrassed about that, you should be embarrassed about your online grammar... Seriously, what high school had you on their Quiz Bowl team-- McDonogh 35? ;-)

Won the 2A State Championship in basketball my senior year of high school. It was the only championship I ever won and by far the best one I could have won. Those memories are incredible.

Ha, no- though we did wipe the floor with O Perry Walker in one memorable contest… Dan Milham was the host w/the most in my day .

And hey what’s wrong with my grammar? I definitely dont bother to capitalize or use apostrophes when typing on message boards, but is that considered ‘grammatical’ ?

My son’s basketball team won the championship for their age group over the weekend. I was trying to explain to him how special it is to have that experience and to really cherish it. I never won a championship. Closest I got was the semifinals when I played football in high school.

While I appreciate your sentiment, and I never won a State Championship in highschool. Lost in semis in baseball once, quarters another. Won rec league stuff, but that doesnt count to me.

I think kids play for lots of 'championships' I also think the kids know they dont matter too much, even if parents are going crazy. My kid has a drawer full of rings and closet full of trophies. Only a couple of them is he really proud of.

My Dad was my elementary school football coach. We won the title every year. One team in our league would play us to a touchdown, we killed everybody else. Only two years during his tenure did he not win the title. He woulda been the High School head coach eventually, but politics got involved.

State champion in Men's Foil while in college.

I'll jump on this one. I fenced through college.

I won tons of state tournaments in Texas and have probably a dozen national medals. They award national medals to quarterfinalists and up. College team won national championship my sophomore year so I got the ring but I didn't fence at NCAAs myself. We had guys on the national/world/olympic team who I competed against daily.

I did eliminate multiple olympic medalists from national tournaments in my day

Few team and individual high school tennis state championships as a player and 1 as a coach. The 1 as a coach meant more than all the others combined.
