I met Dru's mother a few years back at a conference I spoke for...it was here in Baton Rouge. And I remember her story when it happened.

I checked this thing before I moved in and there was like 1. Now there are about 10 mostly involving juveniles and there is a woman registered. That is new.

Zero within 3 miles.

Pretty sure if there was a check for firearms the answer would be “everyone”

A guy I went to high school with apparently set up a camera in his teenage daughters bedroom and also tried to touch her while she was sleeping. His wife(ex) is fricking hot too so I'm not sure what he was thinking.

Another is kind of a shocker. A guy I deal with on a regular basis for work was in therapy because of his desires. He admitted to the therapist that he inappropriately touched a family member over 5 years ago and that's why he sought therapy. He later got arrested over it and is now a registered sex offender. Would have never guessed it by looking at him.

Depends on what they are for

The sex offender registry is one of the most misused registries of its kind in the world

A couple doors down is someone I hang out with all the time at the range or chilling with beers but they are on there for pissing in public

You can whip out your cock and jerk off in the middle of New York City and no one would even think twice

The registry has issues

Closest to me is a relatively classy looking woman who lives in a relatively expensive neighborhood.

I live in an area where the median home price is over $1 million (not a humble brag—I rent, don’t own). The last time I checked one of these, there were 6 or 7 within a 4 or 5 block radius.

Most of the offenses seemed fairly benign, relative to the major sex offenses. But you never know what got pled down. Possession of pics of someone under 18 is not great but not necessarily the end of the world, especially the closer to that age the offender is when they commit the offense (I’ve even read about underage teens being charged for taking and sending their own pics, which seems pretty fricked up). I could see someone mistaking 16 or 17 year olds for 18 year olds (regardless of whether it’s creepy for older guys to look at this stuff, the latter is definitely legal, while the former is not).

But what if the offender actually possessed pics of kids under 12 or whatever the lower limit is, and they just accepted a plea to the lesser charge? Or what if they may have taken a few pics but get a plea deal for possession only?

Typing this post out, I realized that I guess I’ll have to start trying to investigate the charges of people near wherever I live after I have kids. As if parenting wasn’t already scary enough.
