Yes my first cousin. Killed a family of four after falling asleep behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.
He's now a father of four children and the most religious guy you'd ever meet.

My cousin (in law). He used to go through stop signs at night by turning off his headlights to see if cars were coming from the left or right. If he didn’t see headlights, he wouldn’t even touch the brake - just fly right through it.
One time, he had been drinking and did it and obviously didn’t see the headlights and plowed right into another car killing the driver.
He got like 6 months in jail and started serving it the day after his high school graduation. He has a totally normal life now.

I know a guy who was driving drunk and was involved in a wreck that killed the other driver. However, every statement and every detail that was in the police report showed that it was not his fault and the other driver crossed the yellow line, sideswiped him and ended up flipping and ejecting the driver.
That said, the guy pleaded to a manslaughter charge with most of his sentence suspended.
ETA: It messed him up and I don't think he ever drank again. He's older now and from what I hear he's doing okay.

There’s a man that was driving a boat impaired by alcohol. His son was killed when the boat hit an embankment. The loss of his son was tragic but the guy is walking the streets a free man. Obviously, I don’t know what went down in a court of law.

My aunt was killed by a dd.
Buddy in high school was riding in a truck with a guy and both were drunk/high. Road rage turned into a shootout on I-12. He did 4 years in Angola(he was 18). After release, he tried to commit suicide with a .410 of mine but blew off a huge chunk of his shoulder instead. He did successfully commit suicide a few years later at 26.

A week before we graduated high school and my best friend's 18th birthday, her boyfriend was driving drunk, hit a parked camper and killed her. She was sober, wearing a seatbelt, and was the best person I've ever met. He only had a few scratches, showed up to the funeral and only spent a year in jail. Sickening

Guy from my home town killed a pedestrian leaving the bar one night. Shot himself the next day. Terrible for all involved.

quote:
An Air Force chief master sergeant was sentenced to up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2016 drunken driving death.

Yes, he killed an off duty police officer in Houston that was working construction safety detail for extra cash. The man my buddy killed had a wife and kid that were left behind.
My buddy plead guilty and did 2-3 years in jail, obviously probation/parole for a very long time after he was released. He changed his ways after jail (stayed sober), got married, and had 3 little girls. His youngest almost drowned and ended up being mentally and physically disabled from it. His wife couldn’t handle what they went through and the constant care and medical attention their young girl required, so she left them. His estranged wife (now ex) is not a part of the girls’ lives. He says it’s his karma from the night he took that man’s life driving drunk, leaving a child without a dad and a wife without her husband, to raise the child herself.
He’s always been a good church going person, raised in a good loving family. Just made a bad decision one night that changed the course of his life. Sometime the guilt is overwhelming for him and I really believe it’s his girls that keep him alive. Unfortunate for all involved.

2 different guys. One hit a pedestrian on Tchoupitoulas leaving F&Ms and another hit a cop car and the cop later died in the hospital of something not directly related to the crash. Both served only a year and a half.

I know a guy. Was a cop.
Rolled a Jeep and killed 3 of his friends- the one who was decapitated was his best friend, so they say.
He called a friend who picked him up and then they left the scene.
Judge gave him 60 years.

Friend flipped his truck and died right before his senior year. I saw him that afternoon and he was already hammered.
A friends stepbrother was driving drunk and was giving somebody a ride not knowing he had a warrant out. Cops hit the lights, and his buddy talks him into fleeing. Hit a tree and killed the passenger. He did time for manslaughter.
Uncle was a bad alcoholic and slammed into the back of a parked Memphis police cruiser. The officer inside was knocked unconscious and the cruiser caught on fire. Ended up with a severely burned body. Uncle did sometime for that.
In all of this I quickly learned to not drink and drive. Heck i hardly ever drank because of it.

No, but I know 2 killed and one brain damaged by drunk drivers, all in separate incidents. Frick drunk drivers.

I have two childhood friends who were killed by drunk drivers. I understand no one is perfect but it makes me pretty furious when I hear people defend a DD.
For example, one of the jackass guys died as a DD and my only thought was "better him than someone else - especially a person who didn't do anything as bad as drunk driving". There's often an enormous gap in understanding the gravity between people who have lost someone they cared about to a DD and those who have not.

People only getting a year for KILLING someone while drunk is fricking weird to me. You go shoot someone and you get 20-life. You get boozed up and run someone over and you get 12 months?
