If so, what did you do to get over it?

you dont, you learn coping skills, learn to recognize triggers.

I still have nightmares,,but they're just nightmares thinning memories of something that happened

Time. Patience. Family.

Never rush yourself to be or feel “normal”. It’s possible that you will have to find a new “normal” and accept that reality with all of its faults.

Time heals all wounds.

Watched my 13 year old brother die in a 4 wheeler accident when I was 8. Pretty traumatic.

This was in 1986 and as a kid I had a ton of emotional support from my family and friends. But, I’ve never been to any counseling or therapy. In small town Alabama back then it wasn’t even a option. I just learned to deal with loss and grief by leaning on and watching my parents more than anything. They are pretty amazing people. As a teenager I would journal my feelings and that was pretty therapeutic. As an adult I understand more that sometimes shitty stuff (like seeing your brother die) happens and there is little you can do about it but cope and continue living.

I’m actually in business with one of the three other people who witnessed the accident. We talk about it once a year on the anniversary.

Ran someone over that was hit by another car first in the opposite lane.

I essentially finished him off.

Found out he had spent 10 years in prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend.....

So, I went fishing.

Was severely burned over 75% of my body in a auto accident/tanker explosion.

I'm not sure I've gotten over it as others have said, you kind of learn how to cope with it and stay away from triggers that cause issues.

I have noticed I have less patience now than before and dealing with people that dont know or understand things like I do really causes me to get angry. Never was like that before the accident. At times I just dont feel like myself almost like I'm a totally diff person emotionally
My best coping mechanism has been to talk about it oddly enough.

Had a traumatic brain injury. I suddenly hated all of my favorite foods, couldn’t smell for a bit, and would randomly have the weirdest thoughts. It’s gone now, thank God.
