Beyond just being a parent. Something you truly felt called to do. How do you know?

It's not as important to know your purpose in life, as it is to understand that you have one...

Yeah...

Q: What is the chief end of man?
A: Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

I wasted countless hours arguing on the Internet and realized I was above-average at it, so figured I should go study law and get paid to do it.

edit: I aimed a bit too small here. That explanation is why I ended up where I am, not my broader purpose.

I think my purpose in life is to start a family and leave this place better than I found it for my presence. Civilization is great, and it depended on the sacrifices of countless people that came before me. Choosing to terminate the chain of sacrifices is pure selfishness. I know you said "besides starting a family," but it all starts there.

It’s a hard balance between following your dreams and using your talents and keeping the bills paid

I’ve found that to be an incomplete truth.

Now you know
He’s something like a pipe bomb
Ready to blow”

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?

You're so small.

yes, create spaces for other people to enjoy. Am I good at it? I not here to say yes or no for every individual.

My purpose changes day to day. I am not bound to a single one.

Each person is a net negative for "this place". Besides maybe the amish.
