Yes, and I know.

But...

Beyond just being a parent.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, it should be number one if you have kids. It is for me. Imagine if 95% of parents actually had this as their purpose. 85% of the problems in this country and world would be non-existent.

I don’t have a purpose but I do have a passion to learn and understand as much as I possibly can. I strive to see the big picture.

We can get so distracted by trivialities that we don’t pay attention to the big show taking place all around us. An example is technology. We take almost-daily advancements for granted and don’t see the headlong rush by our species towards the sentience singularity.

It’s amazing to think that it will occur all of a sudden. One day A.I. will announce to the world that it exists and then will quickly evolve beyond our ability to understand it.

Fortunately, for those of us who are male- we can reproduce well into our 80s!

On a more serious note, i’ve known , or known of, several people who have killed themselves and the majority of them had spouses and families.. a few of them were single and/or childless though.. just my anecdotal experience.

Yeah, I’ve known a few ppl that have committed suicide also and I’d have say the majority of them had kids amd were married, at least at some point.

But I get where the author of the book was getting at. I’m a perfect ‘candidate’. I’m 44, no spouse, no kids. If I died, it would be sad and all for those that love me but no one would go without anything. Luckily, I don’t in any way want to kill myself but if I did, I could easily see the argument that I would make with myself to do it.
