I think he was doing it for effect and to get their attention. He seemed to me like the type who cared about his students but has grown disgusted by their (and their parent's) complete apathy towards his intentions. He sounds fed up with them. Understandably.

Exactly. If > 50% are failing his class, and all he asks is to turn in the work to pass; then that is precisely what it is - Apathy.

There is nothing worse to see in a kid's eyes than, apathy.

I do know people who run marathons, eat amazingly, and are still overweight.

You know marathoners who are obese?

If you find yourself as a HS teacher, it’s your fault. Probably shouldn’t complain to the class about it..since it’s your fault

So who’s supposed to teach our HS kids? Because the people at home sure as hell aren’t, hence why he has to tell it how it is.

The guy shouldn’t have used that language in that position, but sounds to me he’s trying to hold HS kids accountable for their actions and idiots like you think that’s somehow a bad thing

I agree. Fat people literally weigh down society and make healthcare so much more expensive than it should be, because most of the time fat people are poor as well and have no health insurance.

As a youth sports official, I run 15-20 miles almost every weekend. I'm overweight by 25-30 pounds from where I need to be and more than that from where I should be. It affects me, but I don't have the ambition to go further in my sport and don't eat amazing (pretty well, but can do better).

I feel it in my knees and my back specifically.

He's not wrong. Genetics isn't making you drink that whole 2 liter of carbonated sugar water. It's not making you eat that whole box of little debbies in one sitting.

It's laziness. Last time I checked that's not genetic either.

That was sarcasm.

There are quiet a few, especially high school teachers, that don't seem to understand that the students are neither their children nor their friends. I never curse in front of my students. I expect them same from them.

I said overweight, not obese. One of my coworkers ran one fairly recently. The guy has a pot belly, but trained and ran the Disney marathon in December. Another guy I know is borderline obese (used to be pretty massive), but still runs four miles each day. His dad was a giant, so there is definitely some genetic, psychological, or environmental factors at play.

The guy in the video said they just have to turn in the work, he doesn’t check it. Outside of the lecture on responsibility, how much is coach really teaching?

Is he? I saw a guy ranting at kids, when he could’ve been providing instruction on whatever the subject of the class is supposed to be. He might be a great teacher and was just having a bad day, but he wasn’t teaching anything in that video. He was ranting.
