re: Hate for Lowe’s and all other stores that have self checkout

Standard checkout is still an option.
Not really. Most stores might have 1 lane open on the lumber end, but it's all self checkout most of the time for the rest. It's amazing to me that half the time I am there, the person at the registers is English as a 10th language or something and can't help you with shite.

The round up for charity is a serious scam. They donate your money and take a tax break on it.
No, they don't. It never hits their P&L and they don't layer on a tax adjustment for it. Good grief.

Brookshire's has the worst self-checkout.
It has the old school "weight of bagged groceries has to match what is on the receipt." So, you cannot remove a bag from the bagging area until your transaction is finished. If you have an item you don't want to bag, you can't do it without getting the customer service rep over.
Our local DG market has the best system: scan and go. The only security is the camera built in to watch you.

I save plenty of money using self-checkouts

so you want him to drive to another small town and waste 15 minutes or 30 minutes instead of having places fix the problem like the old days?
No. I want him to stop bitching about a minor inconvenience. He has the choice of shopping at lumber yards or “mom and pop” places that will give better service. But he chooses to visit the big box stores for convenience or price.
But then bitches about self checkout. If it’s that important, go somewhere else.

I sometimes give myself a discount if I’m made to use self checkout. Makes sense to me, as the store is forcing me to work for them by scanning my own goods.
The ole employee discount, huh? I never thought of it this way. I thought of it as theft, but if it is kept to 10% of the total purchase, I guess you can justify it.

There is a pretty big misunderstanding about how taxes work as well

tip options on the screen started at 25% - What the hell are we doing here?
Suffering from math being hard. If there was no custom amount I would leave bupkus and hand whoever brought me a beer a dollar bill.
For years I left 20% of the total bill, taxes included. Did not realize that tip was based on the amount minus taxes. Now I leave 20% on the amount minus tax. Not that it makes much difference but they should have never told me I was tipping too much...I am cheap like that.
I also do not tip because I am supposed to. Folks can ask all they want, no social contract says I have to....if service is adequate I tip 20%, if it is above par I may do 25-30%. If it is subpar I may not leave any tip and do not feel bad or awkward doing so....if your are being guilted into tipping thats on you (not the poster I responded to, anyone who is being guilted into tipping).

It's hard to believe with today's tech you can't push your buggy through a scanner that reads all of the barcodes and in a matter of seconds tells you how much you owe.
A couple of months ago several retailers were saying they were elminating the self checkout because folks were stealing shite. You gotta be a serious moron to think that wasn't gonna happen.
I bought a wheel and tire for a lawn mower at Lowes a couple of months ago. It was supposed to be $110. It rang up for $46. I called the person over who was working the self check out and she tried it and it was $46. Said I had made a mistake. I paid $46 plus tax and left the store. I went back a few days later and looked at the wheel and tire and it was $110. I took it to the self checkout and it rang up $46. I told them again and again I had made a mistake. I got that wheel and tire home and saw that there were 2 barcodes on it. I took that one back to lowes, told them I had another and neither had rang up correctly. The service desk rang up one bar code and it was $46, rang up the other one and it was $110. I told them I wanted to make up the difference....they could not do it LOL. The manager came up, we talked about it, he was dumbfounded that I did not want to pay less and was actually a little pissed off about it. I finally told him if he was happy I was and left with the second wheel and tire. They are complete morons. It is not a lot of money BUT it is $128 difference and if it happens fairly regularly it adds up. Most people would not say a word about it but I am opposed to stealing and thats what it would amount to if you did not try to correct it....I did and they refused to correct it....I did all I could do. They are morons.

Eh..I'm a huge fan of it at home depot as I usually only have 1 or 2 things. WAAY quicker...unless of course I get caught behind some boomer who acts like it's the first time they've ever done it

If you want to have someone else do it, roll your happy arse down to the line and do it that way.

You would rather wait in a long arse line?
I know what I need at Lowe's or Home Depot, only issue is to find it (which happens if I don't know that particular store). Once I have it, I go check out, and if I can walk to an open counter and swipe it, get my receipt and walk out, that's great. And for the record, I'm over 50.
The tip thing is annoying, but just hit NO and move on.

Is there nothing the OT won't complain about? When asked if you want to round up for charity, just press no. It ain't that difficult.

No need to steal. They provide free drinks and snacks right there for you.

Indeed. I'm not taking a big screen TV or anything of that nature, but if my bill approaches $100, for example, I may miss a stick of deodorant or a box of cereal, or something along those lines.

Uhhhh yea if that’s what he’s got to do to avoid going to the place he doesn’t want to go to

I prefer self checkout, especially at Wal-Mart. But I'm 100% not stopping for the guy at the door who is checking receipts. If you wanted to scan over my items then you should have paid someone to check me out.
