It broke up into several pieces, including what is modern day China and Russia.

So it didn't really "fall".

ETA:

I am no expert though.

I bet there's still some steppe tribes that could conquer half of Asia with a few bows and good horses

ETA: they were never really a "nation" though. They let people rule themselves as long as they paid tribute and taxes to the Mongols, pretty hard to maintain that system once you no longer have strong unified leadership

Carthaginian Empire. From challenging the Roman Empire to the failed state of Libya.

Um.....................

I've read a lot about them and they didn't fall.

As for Mongolia today, I think it's a pretty cool country. I think it'd be cool living on the step. Like a long hunting trip. Where's your sense of adventure?

Actually, science has determined that Genghis did so much fricking that, in present day, one in every 200 men in the world are direct descendants of Genghis Khan.

Genghis died.

within 100 years of his death, the Khanate dynasty was breaking up.

This. Pretty sure the Dothraki would not be so scary if Westeros figured out how to use Wildfire to launch projectiles.

They were never a country so they were never close to a powerful nation.
They were spread too thin...from the Far East all the way to Europe. Couldn't hold back all those forces at once.
