Here in Bama its over for the year. My kids school transitioned to online learning this morning. So they wont be held back a year.

Nah. I'm on a bunch of teacher sites. Most places are doing at least some form of online stuff. A lot of it is 'enrichment' though, meaning not to be graded.

I'm sure they can have a graduation in June or July.

Every teacher I know would gladly work a full year for a full years salary. You see teachers are only paid as 9 month or 182 day employees.

My sons school started online as soon as JBE announced school was closed.

Areas that have internet will probably call it at the end of April, other places that did packets are essentially done now.

The problem here is that the publics have no consistent direction on the remote learning program....I can tell you for sure that in Acadia Parish there is no remote learning in place for publics (privates are a different story)....so they lost basically the last half of the school year. I'm interested to see how you progress those children to the next level with any type of success.
I also know that starting back to school in the building on May 1 will not solve that problem....but I think this is going to set the LA public school system back years and kill any recent small advancements that they have made.

Students are missing essentially 4-5 weeks worth of material, it isn't going to kill them. Scores maybe lower next year but unless this extends into August it won't set them back far

Yes. We had finished 6 of the 8 grading periods for the year. The day they closed the schools our school had already started preparing for ACT tests for 10th-12th graders (meaning they were doing something called pre-bubbling that day - filling in all the preliminary name, address, etc.). Once ACT was done, the emphasis was going to be very heavy on LEAP test.
A lot was lost, don't get me wrong, but it was far from half a year. And a lot of it was geared towards standard testing which was lifted for the year. A lot of us have been able to keep the majority of our students engaged and working via online efforts, but i'm sure there are others who haven't.

About public schools. Officially cancelled through April. As for new material. Most classes with a state test was planning on reviewing starting middle of March. So realistically students only missed 1 week of new instruction. Most public schools are now on enrichment only. Private schools have to justify no refund so they still have online school.tiger challenge is officially cancelled so the LSU week long summer camp is not being held this year. Sorry parents

Elementary and Middle Schools in Louisiana would have finished annual testing this week. They lost about 2 weeks of real instruction, then review, testing and then most do field trips, enrichment, awards days, and prep for the next year after testing.
High Schools are still prepping for AP exams which will be online this year and allowing students to improve grades.
All Louisiana schools were in the last quarter before the shut down.
