Yea, you think that is high go check out the Washington D.C. Area Catholic school prices. My old school is like 15k now and that is cheap there.

I've got a buddy who has two kids in National Cathedral. It's like driving a 5-series BMW off a cliff every year.

There is also a huge difference in the peer groups you are involved with in a private/Catholic vs public school in the New Orleans. After college the private school graduates are usually going into graduate school or entering some type of white collar profession. While majority of the public school kids don't even graduate college and are much more likely to enter blue collar or lower paying professions. This is a simple observation I made going to a public elementary school and a Catholic high school.

Those tuitions really aren't that bad. I've got 2 nephews at school in MA and I think my sister and her husband are paying close to $40k a year... Each.

ETA: Just googled and it's $50k+ each a year.

Thank God, I don't have kids yet. It's gonna suck dropping that much money on tuition.

Think those tuition #s are high?

Look up what the tuition at those schools are for students that aren't practicing Catholics.

bullshite.

The majority of students I know who are in grad school either went to a public or magnet school. Then again, I don't think whether or not you had a public or private high school education will play much of a factor in your decision or ability to pursue a master's degree or a doctorate.

The only reason that you might believe that the majority of public school kids are accepting "blue collar" and lower-paying professions is due to the fact that there are simply more public school students in total and there are only a select number of professional positions available.

I'm willing to bet that college dropout numbers do not provide as drastic of a gap between public and private-educated high school graduates as you are led to believe.

They're all under 10K. Unfortunately, you can't say that about Baton Rouge.

Dude, you live in freaking St. Amant. You are comparing apples to rocket ships with your post. The public school system in a small arse suburb don't compare to BR or Nola. The public school I would have been zoned for sent about 10% of kids to college and is now closed down

Not reading all that, guessing Newman isn't listed for obvious reasons? They ain't cheap so add that into your "high" Catholic school pricing debate.

Steve, I can tell you went to a public school because of your reading comprehension.

Sadarade was talking about schools in New Orleans.

ETA: By the way, I bet you have a blue collar job too.

What year were you there?

I didn't go to school there but spent a lot of time in CYO from '85 -'88

Lived near EJ hospital between Clearview and Transcontinental, but went to Our Lady of Divine Providence...boxed at Delta Playground after school and into HS... also played ball at Girard Playground.

Shaw cost $4200 a year when I went there. WTF! Christ the King elementary school was like $2000 a year. Those prices are fricking outrageous it's not like income has increased that much in 10 years.

It has for teachers. When you went to Christ the King (so did I, go Saders) those teachers were making half of what a veteran teacher makes now.

I actually think that's pretty cheap overall. Most of the schools around me are 20k+ per year.

There's a big difference between E.D. White/Vanderbilt and the shite show of public schools in the Lafourche/Terrebonne area.

I agree there are a lot of kids in schools in that area that dont want to be there, but the public schools in that area dont compare to NOLA and BR. Honors classes at these public schools still put out kids that are successful. Hell I think South Terrebonne just had a kid accepted to Harvard. I would send my kid to private school because I do think it puts your kid around more people who expect more for their futures, but unless you are in a few select areas of Louisiana, it's not necessary.

I hope to send my kids to private here in The Woodlands even though the public schools are more than adequate. But the private schools are geared more to get your kid into an elite school. They may not do it, but if they have any shot at all, I hope to do everything I can to help.
