I go to facebook for pictures and such. When someone puts up five political or racial posts in a row I block them. I am way too tempted to engage and I don't want to get into it on a public forum. Been there.

Nope, that's a stupid reason to lose a friendship over.

I have many liberal friends. I live in Palm Beach County. Doesn't bother me. It's just crazy that so many of them are really smart people and yet they are full on democrat wing nuts. It's fascinating really.

I have a friend who is a die hard feminist. She is married, has 2 small and children and is pregnant. Her husband has a good job so she has never worked since her marriage. How many versions of feminists are out there? They can't agree on what they stand for?

Yep. It's the sheer volume that irritates me more than anything else. I don't want to see 20 posts about how bad some politician is (even one I dislike).

What's even more annoying is the most prolific ones are also the most obnoxious and intolerant.

I got defriended by several of my gay friends the night of the election when they realized they were going to lose. The hate they spewed blew my mind, and I think I made a comment like "#tolerance" and I got called some vile chit, such as but not limited to: ignorant housewife (except I'm not a housewife), hateful piece of shite (ok?), bad mother, and the list goes on. All because I admitted I voted for Trump.

Was interesting. Would do again.

Grown men shouldn't be on Facebook or having "friends". Spend time with family and raise your kids.

I don't have a very diverse group of friends so we all have similar political opinions

If you lost any friends over Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, you weren't friends to begin with. Do you think either of them give a shite about you? No. Just have healthy debate with your friends, then get some beers and chill out. I think you'd have to be very dumb to lose a friendship over an orange game show host.

That sounds sexist. We need marchers to protest those people.

Not to get too off topic but I actually did lose a friend (as in he died) with whom I shared no political beliefs. We would get drunk and argue for hours but it was always civil. He gave me a lot of perspective and I like to think I did the same for him. I think that's a good thing we should all have and practice.

Yeah, one of my best friends is insanely liberal, but I really like talking to him about politics. I come with ideas he'd never come up with, and vice versa. If you're a Nazi or a true racist that can't be reasoned with whatsoever, then it might be a deal breaker. But if you're actually friends with someone, you have to know where they sit and have to be compatable on more than a political level.

You need to have open conversations with sane people who disagree with you, otherwise we get the shitstorm that was this election, hardcore socialism, or fascism. We have to remain civil with our opponents who mostly share the values for what they think is good for the majority of the US, otherwise we're in a world of shite.

I never said that I lost anything other than a little respect for some of these people. But, I do say, that I would have been better off not seeing what they believe. Most of the people that I worked with, I already knew. We had some good conversations about our differences. It is okay to have different ideas. But they actually had good reasons why they believed what they do. Some of these people who get under my skin just want to be noticed. It is like they want to just go against everyone they know and care about.

No, I have "unfollowed" people on Facebook from both sides who post nothing but political stuff. In real life I'm not going to lose a friend over politics. I know people on both sides of the spectrum and everywhere in between.
I don't talk politics that much in person.

I don't talk politics other than anonymously. It makes life so much easier. Frankly, not much about politics affects me in a big way anyway. So I don't care much. Some people are too thin skinned to deal with all of that. So I never bring it up and stay out of the way when people do

my thoughts exactly...it just is not important enough IMO for me to devote much energy to at all. honestly, I get bored very quickly when people start talking politics.

I wouldn't be offended or whatever if they just expressed a differing opinion. The problem is, some of my college friends' posts read like, "If you voted for Trump, don't ever fricking talk to me again." Or "If you consider yourself my friend and you voted for Trump, you may be mistaken about our relationship." Or "I'm not mad. I'm just very curious, please let me have a conversation with you so I can find out what I could've done differently."

These are people I don't intend on speaking to again.
